The right tool for the right task. Or how to keep up with a constantly and rapidly changing society

?I have always liked nature and camping. Whenever I can, I go hiking in the beautiful mountains we have in Catalunya, or in nearby France. The idea of sleeping in a tent has always fascinated me since I was a kid. It is very comforting to feel protected by your tent when you are sleeping under the sky. Rationally, it is just some layers of synthetic tissue that divide you from the rest of the world, but in your mind, that tent becomes an indestructible shelter against rain and cold, a comfy place where to rest and start the following day with new energies.?
I remember once I cooked some spaghetti in my tiny camp kitchen, and when everything was ready, I realized that I did not have a fork with me. Just a spoon and a knife. You can imagine how long it took me to have lunch! And yeah, the spaghetti was stone-cold. That experience made me think about how important it is to have the right tool for the right task. And this applies not just in nature. In our professional lives, we often have to face jobs and tasks that might seem overwhelming, but with the right tool and technology we can accomplish great things in less time. This is one of the reasons why I founded Citibeats, to provide decision-makers with a tool that helps them… help people and society. So, yeah, better always be prepared, no matter what your job is. (And yes, it reminded me also of that line of Alanis Morrisette “It’s like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife”.)

Citibeats Finalist at 4YFN 2022
We started 2022 with great news for Citibeats: we have been selected as one of the 5 finalists for the 2022 edition of 4YFN. Whenever we are nominated for an award, or we do get a prize, I feel humbled and lucky. Not because we are getting some recognition, or because I see that my idea is finally taking off. It’s something that goes deeper than personal satisfaction or even temporary confirmation. It’s seeing that people are starting to understand the importance and the scope of what we do for society. It’s feeling that something is changing about the way technology is perceived and that people and decision-makers are looking at technology from a different angle. A more “human” angle.

Last 8th February, I was interviewed at Avui sortim - Ràdio 4 (the interview is in Catalan and is available here). On 28th February, I will join the ITU’s Fourth Global Standard Symposium. The theme of the 2022 edition is “International standards to enable the digital transformation and achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs)”.
