Is this the right time to buy property in South Africa ?

I got this email last Friday saying "Interest Rates are down. This is the best time to buy!".

Really?!?

Please do not be fooled by these emails by property peddlers that do not care about your profit and returns. They just want to sell you a property.

?? Most aspiring and growing property investors sweat interest rates way too much. Don't be one?

Ask me what the interest rate was when I started investing in 2003 and I have no idea...I simply know that at some stage they went down and then went up...and then again...and that will always be the case

So what are the fundamentals that you should really focus on and when is it the right time to start or grow your property portfolio?

Here are a few hacks for you:

? Have suitable cash reserves to absorb changes in interest rates, vacancies, late payments, special levies or unplanned maintenance

? Don't despair when interest rates are high...don't get over-excited when rates are low

? Avoid investing without having solid understanding of the fundamental laws governing the supply & demand of the residential property market. You cannot just buy any property in any area.

? The perfect time to start (or do your next investment in property) does not exist...waiting for the perfect time can be very dangerous...rather focus on the right time.?

? Track, manage & protect your credit score. The higher your credit score, the lower your interest rate...no matter what the Reserve Bank decides to do with their Monetary Policy Committee
