We are cognisant to the fact that Kenya has lost over 30% of its total forest cover over the last 6 decades. This has been attributed to modernization of habitats, search for fuel especially dirty cheap fuel(charcoal). It is estimated that 80% of Kenyans depend on charcoal as their main source of fuel, where a significant number of individuals have lost their life due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
In addition to this, we continue to churn tonnes and tonnes of greenhouse gases, which slowly deplete our ozone layer. Effects are visible as global warming is hitting us hard. In addition, the aurora events that hit us from time to time will be more frequent, effects of this is being hit hard by the solar winds. We all know how planet Mars is at the moment. It has no atmosphere which could support life and this has given the sun an opportunity to suffocate all life that could exist. In the coming years, if we do not take drastic measures, earth could one day look like Mars. Who would be there to give the narrative?
We owe it to the species to walk the earth, to be responsible and accountable for what has been given to us at the moment. We are only custodians. We are the keepers of the world, to protect it for the prosperity of all species.
This again calls for us to do what we can, in our small ways, we should contribute to healing our deteriorating environment. Energy demands are always increasing, creating more pressure to the current available dwindling natural resources. If we do not find ways of creating renewable energy alternatives, we might find ourself in an awkward situation.
