Right Sizing Your Business

The messages we get are all about growing our businesses as large as we can. Workshops on business models are all about maximizing growth and profit. Everyone has an opinion and a process for how you can grow your business with outsourced cheap labour and productivity hacks and apps. We’re told that to succeed we must be prepared to hustle, hustle, hustle!

What if you don’t want to grow like that? Or at all?

What if you want your business to support you in living your Good Life? You don't want to spend your life growing your business.

What if you want a family and to be a part of their lives?

We choose this path of entrepreneurship because we want the freedom it gives and then we buy into the hustle culture and lose that very freedom.

Here’s an alternate path: You spend years honing your craft. You have a handful of clients who appreciate you and pay you well. You choose to hire a couple of people who are experts in their area and you have the capacity to pay them what they're worth. As you continue to improve, your time spent goes down and your rates go up.?

What if you want your business to allow you time, or let you travel, or let you work with your favourite customers or work from your zone of genius? What if your business allowed you to step away whenever you wanted?

Take some time to look at your business and ask yourself these questions:

What do you want your business to give you?

What do you need it to do to support you in the life you want? What impact do you want to have? Who do you want to work with?

Set your parameters

How much time do you want to spend? How do you want to spend that time? How much money do you want? What won’t you do?

Brainstorm ways to make that work

What can you change? Adjust? Add? Take away? Or Rethink completely? How can you add value in other ways? What value exchange do you want? How can the work your business does delight you, your team and your customers?
