“Right people @ right place”

We all have heard about “right people, right place, right time” concept. Who have done MBA have studied this.

“The purpose of human resources management is to ensure the?right people?are in the?right place?at the?right?time in the?organization.” That is why the?right people?are approached, selected, and hired. They are?placed, transferred, and promoted within the company.

?Identifying talent & then helping the organization in managing talents by assigning them right work is one of the tasks of people person & we do it selflessly. It’s a thankless job but gives a different level of satisfaction by just seeing the star shining & spreading it’s light around.

I am qualified HR professional, I am an em-path but keep my head above my shoulders. So, making career in HR was an obvious choice. I am good in analyzing people, their SWOT & work on it together for mutual benefits. Professionalism is etiquette & I believe I am born with it.

I am sharing this story to inspire other who thinks they are good in this but not able to utilize their skills in profitable way. I am doing it, so you can as well.

2 year ago, there was a guy in our housekeeping team in office. He was very particular with timing, his duties. His work was making difference but it was not making difference in his life. This seems unfair to me. I sensed, he has capabilities to deliver more & he deserves to get more from life as well. At the same time, I was juggling with an existing office boy, who was quite slow in his work & was not productive enough. Sometimes we fail to get best out of a person even after providing training, due to lack of eagerness/ willingness to succeed or achieve in life.

Suddenly this office boy went for 10 day leave & I was asked to get is done by someone else or informed to all staff that office boy is on leave. Kindly manage for 10 days on your own.

Then I thought to give a try to this guy, who seems out of box to me among 11 housekeeping boys. He was happily doing shop floor cleaning & other activity related to it. I called him & asked him to give his support to office for 10 days & he agreed.

It took me 1 hr to explain all his work & showed him pantry, introduced him with department heads. Gave him a warm welcome to make him feel comfortable. He worked for 10 days very sincerely & returned back to his usual assigned task after old office boy returns. In those 10 days I was relax to see employees/ visitors happy face & appreciated him for his generosity. And in those 10 days, I realized, what clicked to me about him & his capabilities was absolutely correct & I should give him a chance to prove himself, to discover his possibilities.

Then I put proposal to my management to swipe the roles of people as per their skills. This may upset few people but this can make the culture vibrant & at the same time, we will able to bring right people at right place within right time frame.

Management accepted my proposal after hard core negotiation & now rest is history. He is a champ & everyone’s favorite. His gentle attitude, sweet gesture makes him desirable element in office premises.

What he was doing-

  • Mopping & floor cleaning
  • Dusting
  • Furniture cleaning

What he is doing...

* Serves beverages to staff & guest/ visitors

* Take care of reception in absence of receptionist.

* He assist staff in printing, scanning etc.

* Handling papers/ Challans

*Managing administrative work- distribute stationary, safety shoes, take care of tea coffee materials, office utensils & keep track of all.

*Helping HR in event management like festival celebrations, company anniversary, works very actively & creatively

* He serves lunch to foreign guest like a hotel staff/ waiter.. keep utensils & meals on table as per dining etiquette & company's standard.

His skills which helps in standing out in crowd.

  • He is sporty & presentable
  • Clear in communication
  • Sharp memory
  • Quick learner
  • Disciplined

That’s how we bring positive changes in people life, in organisation & where we go. HR job is not Hire & fire only, to nourish talent around us is also our responsibility. Don't see name & designation, treat people equally with Love & respect.
