Right to Dignified Birth, say no to gene edition

Thank you, 2022! Today is the last working day of the year. Even when I am on vacation, my hobby tends to be writing. Whether my writing skills are good or bad, I love to write. This is how I prefer to communicate.

How was 2022? It was a learning year for me. We've heard a lot of news, most of it negative. In general, we feel that we are in some kind of madness. One of the news stories that has piqued our interest is that of a human being hatched in a factory. Isn't it amazing that we have come up with so much innovation in science and technology?

This generation, or "Gen Z," seems ready to put the fetus in the hatching machine and enjoy adultery. You intend to have a child that is not genetically determined. Doctors give the order to repair their child's genes. They want their children to be smart, to look good, to have grown hair and teeth, and to have light skin — isn't that incredible?

Many organizations work for the well-being of children. A child's agreed-upon age begins at birth. However, it is extremely disappointing to note that no child-centered organization appears to have advocated for children's natural birthright. Children should be what they (the children) want to be, rather than what their parents want them to be. The role of parents should be to nurture their children starting from the womb, such as through pregnancy care, a proper diet, happy families, exclusive breastfeeding, better health care services, better education, and so forth.

Science has confirmed that no chemistry can copy the exact content of a mother's breast milk. The same could apply to a mother's womb and no technology can replace a mother's womb and natural birth. Editing the genes of a child is another irreversible human mistake to be committed in the lives of future children.

A world that has championed mothers' rights to abortion (meaning killing while in the womb) now seems silent when parents violate their natural birthright. Well, abortion can be justified because the mother's body is her body. Parents, on the other hand, should not be permitted to alter their children's natural chemistry in order to edit and produce a child with a different texture, personality, and mindset.

Parents have every right not to have children. In some extreme cases, some individuals are given the absolute right not to have sex with the opposite sex. That may be correct since they chose not to have biological children.

A world that has established hospice care hospitals to honor the end of life should not be tempted to violate the dignity of the newborn. A child is a different entity than their parents, who possess complete human biology. They shouldn't be victimized by their parents' ignorance of unlimited needs.

By the way, children may not want to be born into this world. It is not with their consent that they are conceived. It was our promiscuity that brought them here. Frankly speaking, if children had a choice whether to come into the world or not, I'm sure the majority would not. There is little good to be seen in this world. Wars, a harsh environment due to the climate crisis, conflicts, greed, conspiracies, etc. Do we think children would prefer to come here while the world is preparing for nuclear war if they had the choice to be born? Think of Ukrainian children today. Not only children but also parents may have wished they had never had a child in this world.

Children are the first victims of the adult war. They may not want to grow up with anxiety as children or to live in a worrying world as adults.

Therefore, if we want a child, we must have a child with the honor of being born. The world must honor the newborn to save generations. Parents must not be given the right to use artificial wombs unless it is extremely necessary due to natural problems. This issue is more than human rights. This is about human dignity. This is about humanity.

We appreciate technology, but the world must limit its application. There should be a code of ethics that only helps parents who cannot give birth in a natural womb. It must be applied only if parents badly need it because of some natural problems. Nonetheless, genetic revision should be banned entirely. Let cancer and other chronic diseases kill us instead of giving birth to unnatural children, whose identities we don't know.

I have a simple question for any parent. Have you ever wanted to have a different child than the one you have now, even if she or he has any natural problems? I don't think so. So why do we want to decorate and paint our children so that they are born as someone else?

The world, particularly developed countries, appears to have marched uncomfortably. The saddest part of it is the lack of global eldership and leadership to challenge this innovation. Everyone seems silent. This is not about making a profit out of business; this is about saving humanity.

Do we not have global moral philosophers and spiritual leaders to counsel us on how to calm down in the face of such madness? Where are those prestigious universities that teach moral philosophy? Where and how is humanity taught?

In 2023, I hope that the focus of human rights advocates will be "Dignified Birth." I know I am nothing, and many could laugh at me. Especially when they realize that I am from the lowest part of the South, many may laugh loudly at me. Sure, it may not affect me immediately and directly. But I am working to get moral clearance. Humanity matters everywhere. That's it!?

Can we get some moral defenders to shape our future in 2023? I wish so! This is not fun, by the way. It seems to be the saddest side of human civilization. Let's see where this can lead us all.?
