Right on, Beyoncé! Here’s my take on AI.

Beyoncé’s new country album, “Cowboy Carter,” is breaking records. She’s calling it the best music she ever made. And in a world where AI is becoming more prominent, she talked about purity and real instruments.

“The joy of creating music is that there are no rules. The more I see the world evolving the more I felt a deeper connection to purity. With artificial intelligence and digital filters and programming, I wanted to go back to real instruments.” — Beyoncé

I agree, Beyoncé. Human creativity is what I bring to the music I play, and it’s what GDLOFT brings every time we work on a graphic design project. While I’m all about robot vacuums and using AI for data-analysis, let’s leave creativity — making music, painting, sketching, writing, design — to the humans, please!

What’s so important about creativity?

Not only do humans want to be creative … they need to.

  1. Creativity is a vital component to wellbeing. Creativity fosters so many benefits for humans: skill development, self-expression, a confidence boost, connecting with others, getting access to new perspectives, problem-solving, a sense of purpose, mental health benefits and heightened cognitive function! The science behind creativity, from the American Psychological Association, demonstrates that we want to nourish more, not less creativity.
  2. There is magic that happens inside?the surrender. When we give a creative task to AI, there’s no room for magic. It eliminates the most important part — the process! "The creative process is a process of surrender, not control.”?– Bruce Lee
  3. Creating?helps us tune into our souls, and attune to others.?This is how we realize our shared human experience. And isn’t that what it’s all about? "You use a glass mirror to see your face. You use works of art to see your soul." – George Bernard Shaw

?

If AI writes a song for you, or creates a painting for you, do any of these positive human benefits happen?

Probably not.

But don’t worry … it’s not all bad news!

?When used intentionally, AI can enhance our creativity by taking care of mundane tasks. This can free up our time, mental resources and imaginations for — you guessed it — being creative!

Ways AI can give you more time to be creative:

Pinpoint the tasks that you find time consuming, repetitive or boring, and ask AI if it can help.

●????? Use it as a fact-checker or grammar-check

●????? Idea-generation: Use it to brainstorm ideas

●????? Have it compile lists of organizations to reach out to

●????? Find relevant quotes or statistics

?

Ways not to use AI (if you want to foster human creativity):

Stick to doing these things the human way.

●????? Creating art

●????? Writing personal emails

●????? Creating music

●????? Doing design work

Ironically, creativity is a big part of the reason why AI exists. Humans were able to envision it and bring it to life. Let’s just ensure AI doesn't stifle our innate gifts and potential.

Step away from the screen.

Ask a robot to handle the household tasks.

Go pick up a pen, or an instrument, or a glue gun. Let’s keep our creative spark alight!

And when it comes to a rebranding, outreach campaign, or other important project for your organization — you deserve human involvement. At GDLOFT, it’s our creativity and humanity — our ability to understand and feel deeply — that helps us give each client a meaningful outcome.

At GDLOFT, we care about creativity, humans, and relationships. We also care about coffee. Want to chat over coffee? We’d love to meet you.

Well said! Creativity is such an important part of being human, and when AI is misused, it can really get in the way of that essential experience.

Great advice, Kevin. Leave AI to the mundane tasks so that you can spend more time on the creativity. Love the Frankenstein artwork, too!
