RIF’d… The Morning After

RIF’d… The Morning After

Yesterday, I joined a club nobody really wants to be in. And yeah, it sucks—let's not sugarcoat it. But this post isn’t about bitterness or throwing shade. This is a check-in with myself and anyone who’s been through this or might be next in line. Let’s get real about what it feels like to wake up the morning after a RIF (reduction in force, for those lucky enough not to know).

The Wake-Up Call: I don’t have that usual morning rush or that inbox full of urgent emails. It’s… weird. And while my alarm isn’t ringing, my brain still is. How do I make today count when it feels like the floor just dropped out?

The Plan: For now, it's about recalibration. I’m sorting my resume, connecting with the folks who’ve had my back, and taking stock of where I want to go next. If you’re reading this and haven’t touched your resume in a while—don’t wait until you have to. Keep it ready, keep it fresh.

The Reality Check: RIFs aren’t a reflection of personal failure; they’re business moves. It’s hard not to take it personally, but today, I’m letting go of that weight. If you’re in this boat, let’s remind ourselves: our worth isn’t tied to our title.

So here’s to everyone waking up to a new “normal” today. Let’s help each other get through it, build back, and maybe share some wisdom on the way. If you’ve got tips, send them my way, and I’ll be here to share mine daily.

Tip #1: Don't even think about being prideful and not working your network... it's why you're here. Just sayin.

On one hand sorry to hear the RIF got you. But, it is good to see you have handled it well. I was hit early last year. While I had a plan at first it was derailed after I was hit with some health issues and other challenges that I’ve just started to come out of. Needless to say, I was feeling defeated for awhile.

Damn shame. You’re one of the most creative, original persons I know, and if there ever was a company that needed creative and original, it was that one. (To be specific, the current version of that company.) Their loss, and hopefully your gain.

Hang in there. The job market is tough right now. It took me a while to get my first interview. Dont let the event define you. Stay strong

You never know how much of a break your body needs until you take or get one. I am not sure how I worked so hard and was able to get it (work and home life),done. It was for sure time for a break. Enjoy your time away and adjust where needed. I have found some new escapes to manage my stress (not just Hallmark) and loving life even more. Best wishes
