LifeNet of Michigan Helicopter and Mobile Medical Response Ambulances near Emergency Room Bay of Covenant HealthCare

By Jessica Gavord, MMR Social Media & Outreach Coordinator 8/6/2020

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of spending 10 hours on-board A9 in our Saginaw Division with Paramedic-RN, Karl Vary and EMT-B, Rob Swan.

Karl has been with Mobile Medical Response for about 15 years, joining our team in 2005. He currently works for MMR part-time and for LifeNet of Michigan, an air medical service offered through Covenant HealthCare. He is a husband and father to one daughter.

Rob has been with Mobile Medical Response for over three years, joining our team in January of 2017. He came to us through a program offered by Michigan Works Great Lakes Bay Region. He is a husband and father to one daughter and one son.

It was truly incredible to witness the tremendous teamwork and powerful dynamic of this crew up close. Everything they did together seemed to be one seamless effort. From navigation and driving, to patient care, and even education. It was clear that they are both leaders in their field. Rob had expressed his interest in advancing his career in EMS by becoming a Paramedic. While Karl wrote his reports, he took advantage of educational moments by explaining certain situations and likely outcomes dependent upon specific circumstances relevant to their previous emergency call. Rob was fully attuned and took in everything Karl had to offer.

Karl and Rob exude compassion, care, leadership, and teamwork. I am so proud to say they are a part of Team MMR and I feel incredibly lucky to have shared this day with them.
