Riddle me this – Once I have been spent you can never have me back, spend me wisely – Who am I?

I had a business partner some time ago; we had an active business and stayed pretty busy. We had to attend a conference one weekend and he was complaining that he would have to cut the grass at his house when we got back. Now this was a really bright guy. I looked at with a question on my face, and he looked back confused.

 I said, “Why are you cutting your own lawn? Do you think Elon Musk cuts his lawn?” No he said. Why? “How much do you make an hour?”

The answer to which I already had a pretty good idea being business partners. I followed with this question.

“How long does it take to cut that 4 acre property?”

His eyes went wide in understanding. I saw him doing the calculations in his head.

 I said,” regardless how you spend it, that is time that you can’t get back, shouldn’t you give more thought to how you spend it?”

As you can see, the answer to the riddle above is “time”.

It is a natural part of the human condition to hold on to the things that we find valuable, and after all what is more valuable than money?

You guessed it! Time.

Successful people know to spend money to save time.

It takes discipline to learn to cherish your time above all. It takes skill to invest it wisely.
