Ricky's 16kg Weight Loss Transformation: Breaking Free from Binge Cycles and Rediscovering Health

Ricky was living in survival mode.
He was overworked, overstressed and trying to do the best that he could as a new dad.
With all of his focus on progressing his career and raising a child,
He completely lost himself.
And as a result,
His health started deteriorating.
His weight was piling on, and he developed transverse myelitis - a neurological issue that inflamed his spine.?
The warning signs were too loud for him to ignore - he knew he had to take control of his health and change his lifestyle very quickly if he wanted to stick around for his family.?
So he reached out to Autonomy.
Starting at 85kgs in June, his main goal was to get to 70kg by October and regain his health.?
But he had limitations.
Not only was his neurological disorder a barrier,?
He had inherited beliefs that he needed to shift in order to create sustainable results.?
Ricky had an all-or-nothing mindset when it came to nutrition and exercise,?
Which meant that he felt like he had to eat super healthy 100% of the time and train at Barry’s 7x a week in order to get into shape.
A routine that is completely unachievable to maintain.??
Setting these unrealistic expectations of himself set him up for failure.
And became the breeding ground of his problematic eating behaviours.
Any time he would (inevitably) not be able to stick to his overly restrictive regime, he would be crippled with guilt and throw in the towel - binge eating everything in sight and overindulging on his mum’s samosas.?
This kept him in a constant cycle of losing a little weight, then gaining a whole lot more.?
He didn’t just need to learn how to lose weight - he needed to develop the tool-kit that would help him keep it off.?
The Strategy:
Unlike the previous methods that Ricky attempted to use to get in shape,?
Ricky was built a holistic plan that encouraged him to start putting him in situations where he was exposed to the things he thought would damage his progress
Like having 6 pieces of bread in one meal, rice, naan, eating samosa’s and going on a night out with his mates.
As counter-intuitive as it sounds, this was exactly what defined the success of Ricky’s weight-loss transformation.
Because at the end of the day - nobody wants to spend their life turning down rice and peshwari naan at the family dinners.?
And in order to be able to create results that are sustainable,
You need to be inclusive of the things that are inevitably going to end up on your plate at one stage or the other.?
Not to mention the havoc that food guilt creates with binge-eating and weight gain.?
Because the shame of eating something you believe you’re not supposed to is enough to send you into an uncontrollable spiral, creating a drive to escape from the discomfort of your emotions.?
It was necessary for Ricky to have his “forbidden” foods to be able to end the binge cycle and see the weight come off for good.?
It wasn’t a free-for-all feast on bread and rice though.?
It needed a strategy.
And the strategy he worked on implementing with his coach was one of give and take.?
This meant that if Ricky was planning to have a big night out with the lads,?
And take in a generous amount of gin & chips,?
He would need to give out more calories from somewhere else in his day
Whether that was by increasing his step count to burn more,
Or by removing carbohydrates from his breakfast & lunch, so he could enjoy being more flexible in the evening without compromising on his progress.?
As a result, he confidently goes to his family dinners knowing that he’s not going to devour mum’s plates of samosas - and even if he does, he knows he has the strategy on how to move forward in a way where he can maintain his results.?
He has a night out with his mates and goes to sleep at night knowing that it’s not going to send him back up to the same weight that made him sick in the first place.
Anxiety and binge eating are no longer a part of his diet anymore. His relationship with food has done a complete 180.?
And he’s absolutely smashed his weight-loss goals - surpassing his 70kg target and sitting at 69.9kg
With almost 16kgs off his frame, he’s lighter on his feet and moving freely - which has inspired him to pick up his favourite past-time, playing football, which puts him in an epic state of mind.?
He’s getting stronger with every gym session and feels healthier than he’s ever done.?
But the best part about his transformation is that he now has peace of mind that he’s going to be around long enough to watch his son grow into a man.?
Ricky isn’t a special case,?
He’s just a guy who decided to take control of his health, get into amazing shape and create a better life for himself.
Just like the other 1,000+ South Asian Clients we’ve worked with - who have all achieved jaw-dropping results (and maintained them for life)
All it takes is a decision not to settle for where you are and take the next step towards becoming the person you know you can be.?
