Today I turn 38.

And I feel good.

In fact. I feel really good.

I got about a dozen birthday wishes today.

Not much.

Only from close ones.

No one knew.

And no one needs to know.

In fact, the first thing I said to Penny this morning when she gave me a big happy birthday hug was to not treat me any more special than she already does.

It's just another day for me.

I served some clients.

I had a team meeting.

I dropped off and picked up my kids from school.

I had lunch with Penny.

And I did some work in between.

I'm not after any birthday wishes.

I write this because I use to be that guy who craved attention from others in order for me to feel good enough.

I use to be that guy who based his whole self-worth on the number of birthday wishes he received that day.

I used to that guy who hung for this very 1 day of the year to feel loved.

But here's what I learned.

The truth.

Every single day you're alive is cause for a celebration.

And every single day you get the rare opportunity to celebrate the improved version of yourself.

Because the purpose of life is not to wait for this 1 day of the year to feel good enough.

The purpose of life is to shed the skin of yesterday into the better version of yourself today.

If you're reading this right now then it means you're alive. And what that really means is that it too is your birthday today.
