The tragic case of the young Ex- CEO of Konga, who recently took his own life, underscores the silent pains experienced by those perceived as well-off. This young entrepreneur, despite his success, faced immense pressures and societal expectations. His death is a stark reminder of how the burdens placed on the wealthy or successful can lead to devastating outcomes.
Past events in Nigeria also reflect this phenomenon. For instance, the suicide of Dr. Allwell Orji in 2017 shocked Nigeria. Dr. Orji, a successful medical doctor, jumped into the Lagos Lagoon, leaving the nation to ponder the hidden struggles behind his professional success. Similarly, the case of Seun Omogaji, a popular Lagos-based DJ known as DJ XGee, who took his life in 2018, highlighted the silent battles that even those in the limelight may face.
Similarly, Past events around the world also reflect this phenomenon. For instance, the suicide of Kate Spade in 2018 and Anthony Bourdain in the same year shocked the world. Both were highly successful individuals, yet they struggled with personal demons that society often overlooks in its fascination with their external success. Another example is the 2014 suicide of Robin Williams, a beloved actor who brought joy to millions but silently battled severe depression.
The thought captured by Dipo Tepede recently captures some very serious worries regarding people who are labelled as RICH or STRONG in society.
Specifically, it has been observed that society often punishes the STRONG/RICH more. "Billings" is actually the smallest part, and by the way, one doesn't need to be rich/strong to experience this. Once a person is perceived as better off in any way, or they don’t share too much of their problems, or they don’t beg or borrow, people ASSUME they are well off. Then comes this societal sentiment against them. In nuances, conversations, dispositions, etc., it's always there. Many then want a piece of their bread. It's so sad that in many instances, one has to forcefully "appear" poorer or weaker so as not to incur the consequences of "appearing" relatively well off.
This is so clear in everyday life. Some movies are extremely popular due to the quiet but loud truth that "People Love To Watch The Wealthy Suffer." Certain soaps and paradigms like "The Rich Also Cry," "The Menu," "Parasite," and "Knives Out" are so wildly popular because of this societal frailty.
Large portions of mainstream society love the narrative and depiction of wealthy people suffering, unapologetically so. This phenomenon has been observed over the years, but this Forbes article captures the essence and the reasons. It reads, and I quote:
"Beyond film alone, the ideology can be seen in various parts of life. From protests and boycotts to memes and movies, the lower- and middle-class are often vocal about their apathy and indignation towards millionaires and billionaires. The manifestations of this mentality may vary, but the sentiment remains the same: 'eat the rich.'"

By the way, it's all rooted in competitive comparative rivalry, jealousy, and envy. The biggest culprits or "witches" are amidst us all... one dares say within us. In fact, there's always this sad glint of "joy" whenever evil news or a bad fortune comes upon a relatively financially wealthy person or friend. If this is you, then please receive the confirmation here: You're a Witch who loves to Eat the Rich.
Wisdom is to confront this dark desire and re-frame the soul. Remember, by the look of your plans and the strength of your hard work, you too will become Rich one day. Karma. It is sincerely hoped and prayed that you won't be a victim of your seeds of bile. Just ponder on what happens when you become Rich.
Grace and comfort beyond words are prayed for the family of the departed. For the record, it’s human beings that do the evil that drives fellow human beings to the early grave. This type of event typifies the silent pains of the rich, the strong, and anyone perceived as such.
In conclusion, allow this reflection to irritate and irrigate the soul with the water of some confrontational truth:
Are you a witch of the Rich? Or a Healer to All?
