Rhodes Ranch HOA bullied resident, suit claims

'I feel so exposed,' she tells Las Vegas Review-Journal

Maria Cervantes Alvarado didn’t want her neighbors in Rhodes Ranch to know she had?sued the community’s HOA after suffering injuries in a car crash, according to a recent report in the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

After being struck by a car while walking in a crosswalk, Maria filed a lawsuit against the Rhodes Ranch homeowners association, alleging that improper lighting at the intersection was a factor in the crash.?

Ultimately, according to Maria, the HOA mailed all Rhodes Ranch residents a notice of a meeting where board members planned to talk about her lawsuit, and posted copies of the notice in the community clubhouse — causing a firestorm on Facebook and Nextdoor.

“Everybody would know my name now,” Maria told the Review-Journal. “I feel so exposed.”

Maria’s attorney, Brandon Albright of The De Castroverde Law Group, wrote in court documents that the HOA had conducted lighting inspections that showed the intersection did not meet the “required illuminance values” for Clark County roadways.

In a further twist, Albright alleges that the HOA had a lapse in insurance coverage at the time of the crash, according to the R-J.
