Rhode Island Partners with Maverick to Lead Country in EV Infrastructure Milestone

We're proud to announce that Rhode Island has achieved a significant milestone in sustainable transportation, supported by Maverick Electric Vehicle Services! Governor Dan McKee celebrated the completion of Phase 1 of the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program with a ribbon cutting ceremony July 17th, marking Rhode Island as the first state in the country to reach this achievement.

Phase 1, launched in December 2023, saw the installation of four new Level 3 DC Fast Chargers along Interstate 95, enhancing our state's EV charging infrastructure. These ChargePoint chargers can charge vehicles up to 80% in just 20-40 minutes, supporting both residents and travelers in adopting cleaner transportation options.

Supported by a collaboration between state agencies and federal partners, including Rhode Island Energy and the U.S. DOT/Federal Highway Administration, in conjunction with Maverick EV Services, this initiative aligns with our commitment to a greener future and achieving our Act on Climate goals.

With bipartisan support under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Rhode Island has been allocated $22.9 million over five years to expand EV charging accessibility across our state. Phase 2 of the NEVI Program, starting in fall 2024, will build upon this success to further extend our EV charging network and meet the needs identified in community surveys.
