Rhino poacher killed by elephant, eaten by lions

A rhino poacher is believed to have been trampled by an elephant, before he was devoured by a pride of lions, leaving only a skull and a pair of pants in an incident on April 1 at Kruger National Park, South Africa.

Being home to almost 80% of the world’s rhinos, Kruger National Park has become the poachers’ choice of hunting spot, including four suspected poachers of which one of them was attacked by an elephant and left for dead.

The search and rescue team discovered only a skull and a pair of pants, believed to have belonged to the deceased.

While extending his condolences to the deceased’s family, the managing executive of the park said that entering the park illegally and on foot is not wise because the park holds many dangers.

The other three suspects appeared in court on April 5 after being arrested for possession of firearms and ammunition without a license, conspiracy to poach as well as trespassing.

The inquest into the deceased’s death has been opened.
