RHG NAMED ONE OF THE REGION’S TOP WORKPLACES IN 2021

Rooted Hospitality Group (Rooted, or RHG), one of the area’s largest privately-held developers and operators of both full-service and fast-casual restaurants, has been named a Top Long Island Workplace for 2021 by Long Island Press and Dan’s Papers for the first time.

The Top Workplaces list is based solely on employee feedback gathered through a third-party anonymous survey that measures multiple aspects of workplace culture, including alignment, execution, and connection. Rooted employees throughout their five Long Island locations participated in the survey, administered by Philadelphia-based Energage.

Surveying began last fall, and in all, 1,308 employers in the region were invited to participate. More than 18,000 Long Island employees received surveys, and nearly 10,000 responded. Based on Energage’s analysis, they have identified the Top 57 Workplaces on Long Island, with Rooted Hospitality Group one of them.

“Being named a Top Workplace for the first time is a clear validation of our efforts to create an engaging work culture where our employees have a real sense of belonging,” said David Hersh, owner, Rooted Hospitality Group. “Building a culture requires continuous work. We strive every day to be at the forefront of how teams are appreciated, rewarded, and, as a result, feel like valued contributors.”

For more than 10 years, the Hospitality Group has placed a strong emphasis on employee retention by creating a family atmosphere that fosters strong relationships with guests and team members alike. To that end, Hersh notes that the Group’s turnover rate is about 25 percent. Compared to the national average of 79 percent in 2019 and 130 percent in 2020 for restaurant workers (according to the National Restaurant Association), Rooted Hospitality Group is poised to lead the local hospitality workforce into a new generation.

“Creating a top workplace is more than offering great benefits and vacation time, although we know how important that is too,” said Talent Acquisition Manager, Erika VanDervoort. “Our team wants to be immersed in a high-performing culture, feel that they are valued, and their voices are heard. This survey’s results are a clear indication that we are moving our team in the right direction.”
