Rfusion and Super Recognisers International, fusing AI and humans to deliver more from your investment
After several installs over the years, facial recognition has come of age, the ease of installation setup and usage has become a much simpler affair. Facial recognition match results are very accurate now, however this assumes the following:
1. Set up of camera
2. Correct lighting
3. High quality enrolled image
When setting up the system, position of the camera and lighting changes throughout the day and night are essential, these 2 assumptions can be rectified easily. What is more difficult is the enrolled image.
A major problem has been that control of the system is left with a security officer on site, with little knowledge of facial recognition. It then becomes their role to ensure the system is maintained and updated accordingly. It all starts well then images of the wrong quality are uploaded, and the system starts to provide false matches.

Unfortunately, due to past mistakes, it is too easy to dismiss this vital technology. AND too often, there has been an over reliance on the equipment. It must be acknowledged that HUMANS (and the right humans) remain an essential part of the system. This has much academic support and in a recent report on the police use of technology in South Wales, Professor Innes of Cardiff University noted:
“…it is more helpful to think of AFR in policing as 'Assisted Facial Recognition' rather than a fully 'Automated Facial Recognition' system. ‘Automated’ implies that the identification process is conducted solely by an algorithm, when in fact, the system serves as a decision-support tool to assist human operators in making identifications.”
So, what is the best way forward to maximise your use of Automated Facial Recognition? Dr Anna Bobak, University of Stirling has stated that "The data…shows that combining the latest algorithm and a super-recogniser…leads to near-perfect performance".
So, who are the Super Recognisers? They are people with extraordinarily good facial recognition ability, who can be identified as having this extraordinary ability by independent testing. The average person can only remember about 20% of faces they have seen. Super Recognisers have proved to be far superior to computer recognition systems being used on their own.
Rfusion has partnered with Super Recognisers International (SRI) Ltd to provide training and services for its customers to maximise the effectiveness of the facial recognition software and minimise false matches due to poor enrolment images.
Our partnership can deploy in your premises the right equipment and the right people to make facial recognition work. In addition, SRI provides bespoke training for law enforcement, military units, intelligence agencies and the private sector to identify and develop Super Recognisers from within their own ranks. Such individuals already exist within the above organisations but may not even know that they have such innate skills. The skills cannot be taught - they are a natural gift owned by a small group of very special individuals who can be developed and enhanced to make them powerful and unique crimefighters within their own right. They can be used to make your venue safer, to prevent and detect crime and anti-social behaviour and find wanted, vulnerable or missing people.
Training includes;
· Enhancement of proven Super Recognisers with behavioural detection training
· Legal and evidential issues relating to Super Recognition
· Data protection, privacy & GDPR
· Current threats and crime trends
· Operational tactics
· Image comparison
These courses are prepared and delivered by the World's leading academics in super recognition and behavioural detection/analysis. They are certified and approved by the Association of Super Recognisers (ASR), the professional body representing super recognisers globally and who set and maintain the highest standards of behaviour, independence and impartiality of their associates.

In London alone it is estimated there is one CCTV camera for every fourteen people. Surveillance technology is continually advancing and can be utilised to deliver clearer video imagery containing footage of crimes and missing persons.
We have combined Super Recognisers, members of our team with the skill to identify people from CCTV images, along with experienced investigators, to form Super Recognisers International (SRI); the forefront of CCTV investigation.
