RFS Weekly: Results of our executive search poll, advice from our recruiting team and posts you may have missed.

Greetings from Recruiting from Scratch!

We hope you’re enjoying the (unofficial) beginning of fall and savored the recent three-day weekend.

Last week, we shared a poll asking when our followers thought executive-level hiring would increase. It looks like our respondents were pretty split - with just over half believing it will increase in the next few months, and the rest after Q1 of next year.

Our take: Executive searches can often take more time than expected, especially if you’re doing them without the help of a recruiting partner. For example, a leader may be great at scaling a company or team from 1 to 10 people...but what about 10 to 100? We’ve developed tried and true methods for hiring executives, and identified where executive searches often break down. Contact us for a consultation to learn more, even if you’re thinking about hiring later in Q1 of 2024.

When do you think executive hiring will pick up?

Advice from our recruiting team: What’s something you’ve seen from successful candidates lately?

Our team meets with clients and speaks with candidates daily. We asked them what they had noticed from successful candidates recently:

From Madeline Russell, Account Manager: “I think across all roles, our clients want to see that candidates can do the work, but personality and communication have both been big with our clients - probably because they're smaller teams and or remote.”

“Clients get most excited when a technical qualified candidate can communicate in detail and clearly while also being personable.”

From Mark Smith, Senior Technical Recruiter: “I think hiring managers always like seeing examples of taking an initiative. A time where a candidate saw an area of improvement and proactively addressed the issue and came up with a solution, even if it was outside of the scope of their role.”

Answering the interview question: “What do you bring to the company?” This question can seem intimidating, but it’s actually great to get a sense of skills, experiences, and what sets a candidate apart.

Hiring in tech for leadership roles - our advice to hiring managers. If you’re hiring for leadership roles (especially for technical roles in engineering, software development, or product management), there are several things we recommend doing as you meet prospective candidates.
