Case study on Out Patient Department
Out Patient Department (OPD) as you know is the part of hospital with physical, medical and other facilities to provide care to patients who are not registered as inpatients. It includes Emergency OPD, General OPD and Referral or Specialty OPD. The Golden hospital is situated in metro city. They are having some problem in OPD as under :
1. Non-responsive reception and apathetic staff.
2. Wild search of specialty OPDs by patients.
3. Appointment jumping.
4. Long waiting hours at each point of contact.
5. Non-availability of reports of various investigations.
6. Inadequate time given for each.
7. Poor rapport or communication between doctors and patients.
8. Non-availability of equipment and supplies.

7 年It seems we are talking about a Government Run Hospital. It seems that there is no system in system. To do so first of all we have to start 1. Social and behavioral training to staff n other senior doctor. 2. Computerization and integration of entire system. digital call system and signage. 3. SOP for every operations and start generating and sharing data and appreciate the achievers and hard workers with Little commercialization and strictness. 4. Last but not least (either make them professional or replace them with professionals).

Sufficient waiting area with adequate resources to cater the load. ? Sufficient space for future expansion. ? Efficient department of hospital administration for day to day redressal of problems. ? Use of HIS in OPD. Use of Operational Research Techniques: By using operational research techniques you can quantify the services required for the given OPD and derive the solutions to the problems mathematically.
