Here is why US Latinos we should celebrate Reyes Magos (3 Kings celebration) more!
Latinos have one more holiday to go 3 Reyes Magos celebrated January 6th. Three Kings Day or Day of Epiphany is widely celebrated in Latin America where children put out their shoe out and wait for Los "Reyes" to bring them toys. The Rosca traditional bread made with dried fruit and if you slice the rosca and you get the plastic baby Jesus you are stuck making tamales on Feb 2nd the Day of the Candelaria but that is another story.
I was thinking wow I would simplify my life if we just celebrated all the gift giving on January 6th. Christmas is by far the most stressful holiday. All the shopping, cooking, plus you have to try to keep all sides of the family happy. One of my nieces goes to three homes on Christmas Eve and 3 on Christmas day exhausting!
Here is the upside of celebrating on the 6th first and foremost everything is already discounted at least 50%! Next you have already eaten all the tamales you could possibly eat and you are already on your New Year's Resolution diet so a simple salad and rosca for dessert will do for cooking.
Finally moving all the gift giving to 6th might just give you a little more time to focus on the real meaning of Christmas with your family. I think its time to put our shoe outside our room and wait for los Reyes Magos!
