We are a 60 year-old organization that decided to transform into a startup three months before the world shut down. I’d like to report that we had a detailed plan and executed it perfectly, but that’s not usually how a “startup” rolls.? It’s been baptism by fire as the myriad of organizations we served were either shutting down or completely changing the way they served their communities.? On the precipice of launching new software, new psychology, and some of the newest thinking in a space that’s been stagnant, I thought it might make sense to reflect how I got here… and ask for your help.

For brevity and avoidance of hubris, I’ll sum up my first formative 25 years of growth succinctly.? With some of the greatest partners on the planet, we built a financial service company with the intention of bringing the investment philosophy of institutions to high net worth individuals.? Our success and model attracted like-minded entrepreneurs.? We built up our technology and service platform to empower these businesses, leveraging our impact across thousands of advisors having more meaningful interactions with customers and bringing the wealth solutions typically only offered to billionaires to their clients.??

The startup sparks that initially ignited the flames became a distant memory as the heat from a growing business grew stronger.? After selling and playing corporate for a few years, I had to reconnect with the tight-rope walk of the startup founder whose sole (or soul!) survival is predicated on bringing meaningful value to their customers.? I formed Rewire Capital to invest in companies that were bringing game-changing and positively-intentioned services to a mass market:

• SeedInvest : pioneering equity crowdfunding
• Wyre : making crypto-currency ubiquitous
• Good Clean Love : fighting big “pharmas” poisoning of women
• WayBetter : gamifying communities to increase health and wellness
• Literably : 10x-ing the impact of Reading teachers in schools?

Rewire Technology

Mission-aligned startup investing provides a deeper connection than a collection of ETFs, and the ability to learn and contribute at equal levels is immensely rewarding.? As a coder and builder of products, I still had an unfulfilled itch and a desire to impact more people.? Rewire Technology was formed to develop million-user platforms where I was mission-aligned.? Our Net Price Calculator is used by almost 200 institutions to deliver transparent cost and aid to millions of incoming students each year.? Many prospective students on the platform realize that a seemingly cost-prohibitive university will cover more of the expense and they upgrade their education options. Other projects include tools that help communities devastated by the opioid crisis find legal funds to help them resolve and rebuild.

CareerScope

Today, over ten thousand advisors, vocational counselors, teachers, and career specialists are administering CareerScope career assessments to their clients. As one of the only assessments that takes into account both the interests of the individual and their aptitude to learn, our reports empower advisors to have deeper conversations and bring tailored career options to their clients.?

We are on the verge of launching an entirely rewired software platform that will funnel some of the largest technological and psychological enhancements to this field in decades.? Our team has been learning deeply by questioning our various markets including Goodwills, high schools, Veteran support programs, and correctional facilities.? If you listen closely, you’ll hear us say “Our mission is your mission,” articulating our aligned motivation with each of these organizations.?
