Reward Yourself
Tomorrow I embark on my first ski trip of the year to Sun Valley, Idaho. It's a long time waiting and I'm pumped. Skiing is one of my great passions and it enlightens my soul. That feeling when you are outdoors and rejuvenating the body. That feeling of reward of a year's hard work. Owning your own business is different than working for someone. I don't get a monthly or quarterly bonus. You just plod along and do the best you can every day. This is the life of an entrepreneur. We reward ourselves in different ways, in this case my ski trip is my gift to myself.
My focus this year is to continue to create balance in my life between my work and my personal life. It keeps things in perspective and also allows me to reflect on what I've accomplished and the gratitude that comes with it. It may sound selfish but it's extremely important, at least for me. There's a day on the calendar for all of us and it's important that we don't miss out on what life has to offer.
We live in a culture that promotes constant rewards. Highly driven people often fail to pause and effectively acknowledge a job well done. Burnout and a compromised personal life can result.
Don't let this happen to you.
