• They fail to detect rare and novel thalassemia variants.
• 20–30% of cases remain undiagnosed, even when thalassemia is present.
• Misdiagnosis often leads to treating thalassemia patients for Iron Deficiency Anemia, resulting in delayed or improper treatment.
