We empower restaurants with data-driven loyalty programs and digital engagement solutions to enhance their CLV!
In this week's episode of Data Delicacies , Arun Kumar welcomes Patrick Bobrukiewicz to discuss innovations in restaurant point-of-sale (POS) technology. Patrick shares how Nigel was born from a partnership between an experienced restaurant operator and a POS technology provider. Together, they aim to meet the evolving needs of restaurants by addressing operational challenges and enhancing the customer experience. Patrick discusses how they approached upgrading legacy POS systems to provide more value, better sales tools, and improved features for staff, driven by insights into what truly benefits restaurant operations.
The Unique Foundation of Nigel
Nigel was born from a unique blend of expertise, combining a seasoned 40-year restaurant operator with a point-of-sale (POS) provider to solve the everyday challenges faced by restaurants. Unlike typical tech companies, Nigel was founded on the principle of service over profit maximization, aiming to redefine the role of POS systems as essential, collaborative tools for restaurants.
"What if we just put our midwestern roots together and we just go after just taking care of restaurant operators again?" Patrick explains. Instead of chasing profit through data or hardware plays, Patrick highlights a straightforward commitment: "Let’s just take care of restaurant operators like we have wanted to be taken care of by our tech partners for the longest time." This approach laid the foundation for a POS system built with the true needs of restaurant operators at its core.
Replacing Legacy Systems with Operational Value
Nigel approaches its technology as a flexible asset rather than a locked-in suite. Where many POS systems require full adoption of a singular tech stack, Nigel offers restaurant owners freedom of choice. Built on an open API architecture, Nigel’s POS easily integrates with existing tools, allowing restaurants to stay agile and evolve their tech as their needs change, without the burden of costly upgrades.
"We're not necessarily trying to say that you have to be using all of our software, all of our full tech stack," Patrick clarifies, noting that "With Nigel, we want you to control your own technology stack...to be nimble as the market changes." This approach prioritizes operational flexibility over rigid systems, empowering restaurant operators to navigate changing market conditions with confidence and minimal disruption.
Meeting Future Needs through Continuous Innovation
Nigel is committed to continuous development, driven by direct feedback from restaurant operators. By integrating real-time insights from their clients, Nigel ensures its technology stays aligned with the industry's evolving needs, proactively adapting to new customer demands and market shifts.
"The automation of the segments for a lot of businesses inside of their tools…can alert you about data anomalies inside of your data set," Patrick explains, underscoring the value of AI and automation in helping operators track critical customer data. Looking ahead, Patrick predicts AI will transform the industry: "The biggest thing that happens to us in the restaurant industry in the next 3 years is when we have AI and bots starting to suggest the things that we should be looking at as opposed to us configuring the things we want to look at."
This commitment to innovation ensures that Nigel’s technology evolves alongside the industry, providing practical, forward-thinking solutions that empower restaurants to anticipate and respond to future challenges.
