Revolutionizing Jury Duty: UK Courts Introduce Free Mental Health Support for Jurors

A groundbreaking pilot program across 14 Crown Courts in the UK now offers jurors six free counseling sessions and a 24/7 support helpline, redefining "jury duty" with a focus on duty of care. ????

Major courts like The Old Bailey, Liverpool, Birmingham, Bristol, and Teesside are participating, addressing some of the nation’s most serious cases. ?????

Funded by the Ministry of Justice and operated by Vita Health Group, this six-month initiative aims to evaluate effective support for jurors facing emotional distress from distressing evidence.

Justice Minister Mike Freer highlighted the importance of ensuring that jurors receive appropriate mental health care. This program marks a significant step in recognizing and addressing the mental health impacts of jury service in the UK. ????

Curious about how this initiative could change the landscape of jury service and mental health support?

Hey! I am doing my dissertation on jury service and support, so would be super greatful if anyone could fill out my quick questionnaire on their experience. It is completely anonymous. Thank you :) https://run.pavlovia.org/pavlovia/survey-2024.1.0/?surveyId=0d7fe642-ae1d-41a0-83ab-0cc8666dfff4
