Revolutionize Your Content Strategy: Unveiling the 7-Step ChatGPT Power Play

Are you tired of spending days crafting compelling messaging to influence decision-makers? Discover an innovative 8-step process that transforms your effort from days to minutes. With a simple yet effective approach, you can quickly elevate your brand or business, whether you're a seasoned marketer, a technical professional seeking improved communication strategies, or just building your personal brand.?

In this article, I will share my strategy, as well as some effective ChatGPT prompts and sources, that generate fantastic results.? I will also show how changing as little as one word in the prompt sequence can significantly impact the results.

Step 1: Unleash the Power of ChatGPT

Use a structured approach that is modular and reusable.? Break the work process into distinct steps and identify the skills and titles of the people that you would include when using humans instead of ChatGPT.? In the first example below, the user knows their product and their business goals, but is unsure about defining the audience.

First, we’ll input what we know.? Then, ask ChatGPT to provide insights into what we don’t know.? Each step will build upon the preceding steps, and the framework becomes very reusable when you have multiple product lines, distinct audiences, or other reasons to craft differentiated stories.?

Step 2-4: Define Your Foundation

Remember that unlike most humans, ChatGPT performs better when micro-managed. ?Tell ChatGPT to prompt you for inputs, one by one, for the elements that you already know, before giving instructions to generate outputs for your main objective.? Like some humans, ChatGPT can have a tendency to jump ahead with assumptions and generate outputs that do not match expectations, and clear communication is the key to overcoming this challenge.

Here's a prompt that works well for me to modularize my inputs and manage outputs by defining variables to be referenced in future analyses:

  • “You will prompt me for (1) describe your product/service, (2) describe your main business objective, and (3) describe your niche.”

If you already have a solid audience definition and value-proposition, add these as prompts (4) and (5) in the above command.?

Step 5-6: Dive into Audience Psychology

In this example, we want to get clarity on our audience definition before proceeding towards crafting content, so we begin to request analytical responses here.? When asking ChatGPT to provide answers, it is important to remember the parallel to working with a team, where each persona on a multi-discipline team approaches the same question in very different ways. ?Therefore, giving instructions via role-play is a great way to refine the scope and improve the quality of the responses.

Modifying some prompts cited in the Forbes article, “5 ChatGPT Prompts To Optimize Your Sales Funnel (and Boost Conversion)” by Jodie Cook, here’s a prompt that works well for defining ideal customer profiles.? The goal of Step 5 is to use role play to uncover the psychological and social factors driving your market segment, and summarize insights into compelling bullet points to be used as another input (4) going forward.

  • Now that you have a refined version of (1), (2), and (3), as a skilled marketer and customer researcher, your role is to delve into the psychology that influences buying decisions for (1) with the goal of (2). Start by identifying the main market segments relevant to (1). One at a time, analyze each segment to understand its unique characteristics. Following this, develop a core content brief tailored to buyers within each segment, specifically for (1) in the (3). This involves a detailed examination of the audience to grasp their challenges, interests, and behaviors, focusing on their geographic location, demographic details (job roles, industry, age, income, etc.), psychographic traits (needs, wants, desires, and behaviors), and pain points. Your analysis should uncover the psychological and social factors that drive this market segment, enabling you to create content that resonates on a deep emotional level, without directly mentioning my product or company. Instead, focus on the human aspects we are researching. Articulate these insights into bullet points, each starting with a bolded section name for clarity, providing a comprehensive view into the target audience's mindset and its connection to my product within my niche of (3).”

While the prompt above is used to develop a segmented and reusable audience profile, the prompt can be modified to create another input that focuses on defining benefits and value-selling points, which becomes reusable input (5).

  • As a skilled marketer and customer researcher, your role is to delve into the psychology that influences buying decisions for (1) with the goal of (2) in the niche of (3). Start by identifying the main benefits and value-selling points to (1). Your analysis should uncover the psychological and social factors that drive this market segment, enabling you to create content that resonates on a deep emotional level, without directly mentioning my product or company. Instead, focus on the human aspects we are researching. Articulate these insights into bullet points, each starting with a bolded section name for clarity, providing a comprehensive view into the target audience's mindset for outsourcing specialty engineering design, and its connection to my product within my niche of (3).”

Step 7: Craft Powerful and Magnetic Content

Now that ChatGPT has a deep understanding of your product, goals, audience, and value propositions, it becomes easy to generate compelling content ideas and even write drafts for a myriad of content types.? Additionally, now that you have an efficient and effective framework for ChatGPT prompting, this section investigates the impact of changing the deliverable and the persona in the role-play.? I have used this sequence successfully to create everything from a content strategy across the buying cycle to an infographic outline, to a technical webinar script and slide deck outline. ?The Forbes article mentioned previously gives several great prompts for generating marketing content ideas, so I’ll focus something new here.

Let’s look at a real-life example of how to leverage the modular approach and insights thus far.? Often, it is a time-consuming challenge to boil down content with a focus on key drivers, while simultaneously bridging gaps between the thought processes of technical experts and those of business-minded teams.? I’ve recently used this set of prompts to dramatically reduce cycle-time and focus integrated team discussions on fine tuning of messaging.

  • “You now have (1), (2), (3), as well as the audience description (4) and the main benefits and value selling points (5). ?You will prompt me for (6) existing content of a slide presentation regarding best practices for engineering design project execution. You will then wait for my next set of instructions.”

After loading the text content of a technical slide presentation based on a recently executed engineering design project, use the following prompt:

  • “As a speechwriter specializing in technical presentations and speeches, your task is to rewrite each section (4) keeping the existing content section titles.? Use a technical professional voice with an understanding of (1), (2), and (3).? The goal is to have an engaging 45 minute webinar presentation that encapsulates the technical challenges, the people and process challenges, as well as the tangible benefits of my offering, leading to a conclusion that contains a compelling piece that emphasizes the unique value proposition and how it addresses the needs and desires of the target audience. Each section should retain enough key technical aspects of the story to keep the technical audience engaged while enabling the presentation to be completed in no less than 30 minutes and not more than 40 minutes.”

To visualize the impact of the role-play persona on the outputs, change the word “speechwriter” to “copywriter” in the above prompt and see the difference in style and tone of the output.? For this example regarding Carbon Capture and Sequestration:

  • Copywriter: “Embark on a journey across continents as we dissect the distinct well designs employed globally. From aquifers under high initial pressures in the United States to the challenges posed by depleted reservoirs in Europe and Asia, we navigate the regional intricacies that impact CO2 injection targets and wellbore conditions.”
  • Speechwriter: “Now, we shift our focus to well design across regions. From aquifers in the U.S. to depleted reservoirs in Europe and Asia, each presents unique challenges. We'll unravel the complexities and discuss the influence of Joule-Thompson cooling.”

Conclusion:

Transform your content strategy with this comprehensive 8-step guide, ensuring your brand or business stands out and thrives in today's competitive landscape.? Drive efficiency by leveraging AI technology and this modular approach.? Segment your audience and store the foundational inputs for easy recall and fast-track your results.? Whether a technical professional improving communications to business minded team members, or a marketer driving leads, this process is repeatable and effective to get powerful results in a short time.
