A Check-in With Your Goals
Did you set a New Years resolution this year?
If you did, the odds are pretty good that the motivation you felt back on Jan 1 has faded out. Welcome to the tail end of February! By now, 80% of people who set New Years resolutions have lost the resolve to stick with them.
The good news is, it’s not too late. There’s a lot of 2024 left, so even if you’re feeling off track now, this is a great time to reset and re-commit to your goals for the year. Here are four ways to get back on track:
Here Are Four Ways to Get Back on Track
1. Re-Focus on the Vision
While dissatisfaction, debt, and pain can kick us into action, focusing on what we’re moving towards will keep motivation levels higher over the long haul. In other words, rather than focusing on what you’re trying to get away from, invest some quality time in an optimistic daydream. What if you did achieve your goal?
What possibilities, lifestyle changes, or opportunities would come your way? Visualize a day in the life of the future you who has already achieved the goal, and you’ll likely get a fresh boost of inspiration and motivation.
2. Break it Down
Big dreams and big goals can inspire us, but they matter little unless we take the first step…. And then the next one…. And the next. Take your big goals for the year and break them down into tiny, bite-size chunks. What’s something that you can do every day, or a couple of times per week? Something that feels not only manageable, but downright easy. Start there, and build through the year ahead.
3. Make Time
Your goals have got to be reflected on your calendar. If you’re trying to squeeze them in around the edges of whatever else comes up, it’s unlikely you’ll ever have enough time. Make a commitment to yourself and block time off to work on your first priority, week after week. You’ll be amazed at how far you get by setting aside an hour or two a week for a full year.
4. Progress, not Perfection
You don’t need perfect performance to have the best year ever! As entrepreneurs, we can be our own harshest critics. Focus on the process, not the outcomes – the progress, not perfect results – and celebrate the journey. ?
Let’s not forget to have fun along the way!
