Revitalisation of the North-South Railway Corridor
At a 2015 meeting held in Livingstone, Zambia, the SADC ministers of transport approved a pilot study of the North-South Railway Corridor (NSC) which would contribute to the SADC Railway Master Plan. They mandated the SADC Secretariat, assisted by the Southern African Railway Association (SARA), to collaborate with the NEPAD Business Foundation (NBF) in executing the study.
In 2016 the NBF together with Transnet Freight Rail (TFR), Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL), National Railway of Zimbabwe (NRZ), Beitbridge Bulawayo Railway (BBR) and Societe National des Chemins de Fer du Congo (SNCC) signed a memorandum of agreement in which they undertook to collaborate in executing the study.?The signing of the agreement marked a turning point in the efforts to revitalise this crucial regional corridor.
