REVIT PRO TIPS - Avoiding Door Dilemmas

REVIT PRO TIPS - Avoiding Door Dilemmas

We’ve seen so much time wasted with a poor door management strategy.

Here’s an overview of some golden rules we use to avoid feeling like putting an axe through the nearest door.

?Making Revit Doors Easy

1. Create the Shared Parameters to Schedule

Make absolutely sure all items to be scheduled are added to your Master Parameter file. This ensures all parameters can be added to new door families and avoids having the dreaded blank spaces in schedules. Consistency is key.

2. Use Master Door Types

Create a master door for each leaf type (single / leaf and half / double) containing all permutations such as closers, seals, ironmongery and so forth. To create new doors simply Edit Type > Duplicate and select which permutations are required for that type.

This keeps the number of families low, but you can add as many family types as you require.

3. Types, Types, Types

Avoid using instance based parameters to define different types. If a particular door is different, create a new type for it! This strategy allows changes to be made globally from the door family and avoids trawling through the project changing instances.

4. Catalogue Doors as They are Created

Add door types to a centralized project warehouse / showroom file as they are created. This makes it easy for your coworkers to view and collect project doors, plus it avoids duplication. Create a door tag there displaying the important parameters for faster browsing.

Changes on door families can be made from this file and pushed out to all project files from there.

5. Create the Door Schedule in the Revit Template

Add the door schedule to your Revit template so it populates as you are working. Regularly check it as you are adding doors to avoid any nasty surprises come issue day.

6. Be Organized

Its worth spending time to get organized at the beginning and ensure doors are managed consistently – it’s a worthwhile investment of time and you will reap the rewards.
