Revit models audit. Typical quality assurance checks.
In this article I will provide a list of checks which we are running in our Revit projects for quick models analyze and reporting. Checks can be edited/ customized according to disciplines requirements/ local regulations/ Clients standards. This checks are predefined in XML format, running and preparing HTML report automatically.
Model Checks
- Revit Version - Will report the version and build data of Revit running the check.
- File Name - Checks files name according to template.
- File Size - Reports the file size of a Revit model in MB (megabytes).
- Project Information - Lists all parameters and values attached to Project Information for a project except those associated with Revit Extensions (starting with 'Extensions').
- Unused Elements - Reports the number of elements that can be purged from a Revit model.
- Warning Count - Reports all warnings in a Revit model.
Element Checks
- Classification System Filling - Reports if there are any families which have empty parameter "Assembly Code"
- Largest Families - Will report the families in the project ordered by file size.
- Mass Elements - Check if any Mass Elements have been placed in the model.
- Generic Models - Generic model search
- Duplicate Model Elements - Check for any elements that are duplicates, meaning identical elements at the same location and base level. This does not include Walls or In-Place Families.
- In-Place Families - Check if any In-Place Families exist in the model.
- Building Levels - List Will provide list of Levels which are placed in model
Project Settings
- Phase Elements - Will list the number of elements created on each phase of the project.
- Project Coordinates - Checks shows parameters of Project Base Point and Survey Point Design Options Lists all Design Options in a Revit model. Also optionally lists the number of instances in each design option.
- Object Styles - List of Object Styles.
- Line Styles - List of Line Styles.
- Shared Parameters File - Will report the path of the current shared parameters file.
- Keynotes - List of Keynotes
Views and Sheets
- Browser Organization - Checks model Browser Organization.
- Legends - List of Legends.
- Naviswoks Export - View Test fails if there is no view called "Navisworks Export"
- Views With Hidden Model Elements - Lists all views in a Revit model that have permanently hidden model elements and the total number of hidden elements.
- Views Not On Sheets - Reports the number of views (not including views that can be placed on more than one sheet, like Schedules and Legends) that are not placed on a sheet.
Spaces and Rooms
- Rooms with No Defined Area - Any Rooms with area "not placed, "not enclosed", or "redundant" in the model will cause this check to fail and be listed.
- Spaces with No Defined Area - Any Spaces with area "not placed, "not enclosed", or "redundant" in the model will cause this check to fail and be listed.
- Elements Not Within Rooms or Spaces - Checks whether any instances of furniture are not within Rooms or Spaces.
Links and Import
- Pinned Links - Will report any links that are not pinned in place.
- Linked CAD - Will report a list of linked CAD files in the model.
- Link Method - Checks method of models linking
- Raster Images - Lists all raster images in a Revit model.
Worksharing
- Shared Levels and Grids - Reports if any element with family category Grid or Level is not in Workset "Shared Level and Grids"
- Worksets - Lists all user worksets for a Revit model or reports '*Not Workshared*' if worksharing is not enabled. Also optionally lists the number of instances in each workset.
