Is Revit and BIM Same?

In the construction industry, there is still a major confusion between BIM (Building Information Modeling) and Revit, where BIM is considered to be a piece of software such as Revit. However; the fact is that Revit is one of the many BIM tools used for the creation of the 3D BIM model. BIM is the overall process of creating a three-dimensional database in the form of a model of information that pertains to the design of a building. Revit is just one of many software applications under the BIM umbrella that lead to an efficient design of space. Revit is the main application that falls under BIM, but there are other applications designed to perform certain functions that Revit cannot achieve or is ineffective at tackling. BIM provides the information, Revit is one of the mediums where we can create and access this information.
BIM is more than just Revit, and this needs to be continually communicated. Revit's digital model creates a powerful database consisting of information at all stages of a construction project. A digital building is created using 3D intelligent objects with stored information that can be used to successfully time and cost management for the whole lifecycle of a project.
Revit uses model-building components to analyze and simulate systems and structures. Revit collaboration tools allow all team members to work in shared models and import, export and link data with commonly used formats. The shared models can be accessed by multiple project contributors at every phase and this results in better coordination and reduced errors and rework. The design in Revit can be viewed in 2D drawing or even in the 3D model for better visualization. Revit enables all stakeholders to taking accurate decisions with the detailed information shared by the Revit model.?Autodesk Revit?enables users to get the virtual models of a building project so they could have a virtual experience of the building before its actual construction.

BIM is a process in which all the information of the 3D building models is linked and incorporated to produce a comprehensive 3D model. Therefore, Revit is one of the software which supports BIM by creating the data-based model of architectural design, structural design, and MEP design. Any changes made to data input are automatically updated in all Revit output. So, with Revit, you can streamline the design documentation process and maximize productivity.
There is no singular “BIM tool” that can accommodate all the required modelling needs for a project. People from a range of disciplines are working together and coordination is necessary to complete a successful full BIM project. In BIM you should work with a BIM Execution plan, a CDE, (Common Data Environment), follow a LOD strategy, (amount of information inserted on each project stage), create Cobie Sheets, work with SMPs, (Standards, Methods and Procedures), Clash reports and 4D Construction Sequencing. In the BIM process, the Employer's requirements are captured and documented, while additional information management roles emerge in the workplace to ensure the approval and coordination of the information of the digital model.
BIM and Revit are not synonymous. Autodesk created Revit software in order to support BIM, but it does not replace it. In order to collect and store information for any given project, BIM must rely on different software so that data can be combined and integrated to produce a fully functioning 3D model. Revit is just one example of BIM software that designers use to create BIM models, albeit perhaps the most popular platform. Revit is able to combine architecture, structural, and mechanical elements into an immensely data-rich 3D model, and its capabilities are respected across multiple industries.
