Revising Higher Education in India

In a quest to uplift India’s higher education sector, recently the University Grants Commission (UGC) has recently released specifications that the course duration for specific programs has been revised. In a welcome move, the UGC has also added several new degrees and courses as per the notification.?

This move gives more power to students looking to thrive along alternate career paths in technology, fashion, architecture, engineering, and design. Many students can also now enroll and apply for programs in design, sports, and fashion technology, right after they pass the 12th grade.?

Introduction of a New Era in Higher Education

The UGC’s decisions of late have been highly forward-thinking in terms of uplifting students and the very face of higher education in India. With these guidelines, several new UGC-approved courses have been added, including Bachelor’s and Master’s programs in Fashion technology, Sports management, Urban Design, Sports Science, etc.?

In addition to the programs and courses being added, the duration for several courses and programs has been altered. For example, the course duration for Masters in Computer Applications (MCA) has gone from a three-year to a two-year course. Alternatively, the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy has increased from 4 to 4 and a half years. Students can find all the relevant information on the UGC’s website.?
