Revise Teaching of Mathematics

The objectives

  • Mathematization (thoughts)
  • Enjoy Mathematics
  • life experiences
  • Logical thinking
  • No Contradiction
  • Basic Structure of Mathematics

According to George Polya, the 2 aims of teaching Mathematics

  1. Narrow aims

  • Turning out employable adults.
  • Work of social and Economic development
  • numerial operations
  • Develop Useful abilities.

2. Higher/Broad Aims

  • Think Mathematically
  • Have logical discussion
  • logical Conclusions.
  • abstractness
  • Solution to a problem

NCF 2005 (At primary level)

  • Ensuring numeracy
  • Universalisation of elementary education UEE.
  • Level Progression- concrete to abstract.
  • Non-number areas shape spatial understanding, Patterns, measurement and data handling.

Concept Mapping

  • Schematic drawing
  • Hierarchial structure
  • Either by teacher or Learner
  • Connect new concepts with previous.
  • Making learning successful.

Van Hiele Theory Geometric Thought

0- Visualization - Shapes(Appearance).

1- Analysis(Describe) - Classes of Shapes.

2 - Informal Deduction (Recognize) - Relations among Properties.

3 - Deduction - Deductive system of properties.- Attain logical reasoning ability and prove theorems deductively.

4- Rigor - Analysis of deductive System - Establish & Analysis Theorms different Postulation system.

Symmetry

Quality of being made up of exactly similar parts facing each other or around axis

square(4) Kit(1) Rectangle(2) Rhombus (2) Isosceles Trapizoid (1)

Trapezoid (no lines) Isosceles Triangle -1 Line.

Parallelogram- No lines

Equilateral triangle- 3 lines.

Tesselation

A Tessellation is created when a shape is repeated over and over again, covering a plane without any gaps or Overlaps.

Inductive

Process of arriving at a conclusion based on a set of observations

  • Inductive Method. Known to Unknow - Conclusion drawn.
  • Concrete to abstract.

Steps in Inductive Methods

  • Cite Example
  • Conclusions Observing examples
  • Build Concept
  • Attestation of concept on the basis of the examples

Deductive Reasoning

  • Method First Rules to examples
  • Follows maxims
  • general to Particular
  • Abstract to Concrete.

Steps in Deductive Reasoning

  1. Concept
  2. Then different examples
  3. Test the truth.
  4. Attesting of the truth of concept by citing

Meaning

  • To teach
  • One individual to another Individual
  • Biopolar Process John Adam (Narrow Meaning).
  • Broad meaning/ Tripolar.

Teaching learning Materials that are effective/ Interesting /long-lasting help.

We going to revise it more in different areas.
