Review of the year
Simon Sparke
Providing well integrity training and consultancy across all well types, ages, classifications and locations.
What a year 2022, has been for International Well Integrity, especially in this post-Covid environment. In the UK we have been very good at providing vaccinations and boosters for COVID as well as the necessary passes to allow international travel. This has provided a positive opening for my business, with foreign travel for face-to-face meetings and training courses.
Earlier in 2022, I was made Distinguished Lecturer by the SPE, with my presentation entitled ‘Well Integrity; Past, Present and Future, the role of a crime scene detective’’,?the journey began in Q3 2022 with a tour of Argentina, Brazil and London for face-to-face lectures and supported with online virtual presentations to several audiences in USA/Canada/Mexico.
Further tours are planned for Q2 2023, and due to overwhelming demand and popularity, the lecture tour has been extended for another year to Q3 2024. I must add that the SPE DL organisers have been exceptional, and these ladies have done an amazing job in the complete management of this project.
Working as co-chair for the SPE with my colleague Philip Wodka and the committee, we planned and managed a ‘Well Integrity Workshop’ held in the Hague, this event was an extraordinary success, with 140 people attending from Europe, Australia, Brazil, USA, and Middle East, as well as a very generous level of event sponsorship. In the past we have audiences of around 80 people arriving from Europe.
Well Integrity training has also been a major success this year. More than 120 people have attended my classes for closed courses. These have included companies who operate onshore UK gas storage facilities, West African Operators and a key Aberdeen based North Sea Operator. Further, my company is the sole provider of well integrity training for a major Operator based in the Caspian.
Next year's calendar is already starting to fill with courses, so much so that Q1 and Q2 are already fully booked with several options for Q3 2024.
So, as we begin the wind down for Christmas and New Year here in UK, it is already seasonally very cold and has been -7C in my hometown. I would like to extend seasons greetings to all my readers, followers and clients and look forward to working with you next year.
