The entire life is a process of learning. Every human being comes to this planet with the unconscious, subconscious and conscious mind. As the conscious mind becomes more active and aware, learning begins.

The Guru Principle

You have learned so many things from different people and also have taught many things to others. This power to transmit and enliven knowledge is the guru principle. Whoever teaches something that makes one grow is a guru. Doing all that you can for someone else’s growth without expecting anything in return is being a guru. If you can do that for someone, you are a Guru to that person. Knowingly or unknowingly, everyone is a guru at some point in life.?

The Simple and Easy Way

True wisdom dawns when one recognises the guru principle within oneself or connects with someone in whom it has fully blossomed. As the former is not so easily attainable, the people in the East take the second route. That is why in oriental traditions, a guru is highly revered. The idea is simple. Rather than taking the long, lonely and arduous path of making mistakes, one takes the help of the one who has reached the destination.?

Stock Taking

The full moon of the rainy season has been dedicated to honouring this guru principle and celebrated as Guru Purnima. Guru Purnima is also the occasion when you evaluate your growth.?

Like all companies prepare their annual reports every year, a person who aspires to grow to their full potential takes stock of his growth on the day of Guru Purnima. They do a check on how they have progressed over the past year. It’s a day for self-appraisal. When you consciously reflect on your life, you can distinguish the things you did right from those that were wrong. The wisdom to differentiate good from bad, the truth from the untruth resides in everyone.

It's All About Giving

If you can help others lead a better life and give them the strength to face difficult situations, then that is the best service you can do. Being a Guru is all about helping others to learn and grow. You don’t need a hundred disciples to be a Guru. You simply extend a hand to help people - unconditionally.?

If you want to be a leader, you don’t have to wait for your organization to promote you and give ten people under you. A true leader doesn’t wait for a post. He/she takes responsibility and does what is required. If you are good at sports, start helping and teaching others. If you are good at some form of art, help others to become better at it.?

Who Gets It?

Mother is the first guru. Then there are teachers in school and so on. To acquire knowledge of any kind one needs a teacher. There is a teacher for Math, English, Geography, Sports, etc. To understand the Truth of Life and gain mastery over the Art of Living, you need a Guru. At different points in life, knowledge reveals itself to you. The more you honour it, the more it starts manifesting in life.?

Although the Guru principle is not limited to a body or form, when one comes in contact with the one who is awakened, in whom the consciousness has blossomed fully like the full moon, life undergoes a tremendous transformation. How to make the most of such a guru if you find one? The first thing is to approach him or her with humility. With a know-it-all attitude, you cannot benefit from the presence of the guru. Wisdom cannot enter a full cup!

?The second quality is sincerity. The greater the intensity with which you apply the teachings, the faster will your own blossoming be.?

The work of the Guru is to kindle the Guru principle in you. The highest Guru is your spiritual Guru, who, like a mirror, reveals your true self to you.?
