Review of the Omni Oklahoma City Hotel

Review of the Omni Oklahoma City Hotel

by Scott S. Smith and Sandra Wells

The Omni Oklahoma City Hotel https://www.omnihotels.com/hotels/oklahoma-city is located downtown, nestled between the giant Paycom sports and event center and the Oklahoma City Convention Center. It is a short walk to the Bricktown entertainment district and the Myriad Botanical Gardens and there is a street car stop across from the hotel. Many of the 605 rooms and suites have dramatic views of the 70-acre Scissortail Park or the city.

We have stayed in many top hotels in over two decades of traveling around the world and this is one of the very best. It starts with the wonderful lobby: with comfortable seating around a fireplace, there is an abundance of great books to browse while you relax. Titles include How to Photograph Everything, Art Treasures of the Vatican, Dry Gardens, and Activism and Architecture. The decor is beautifully coordinated, from the carpets and the wallpaper to the lighting and art (one example is Amanda Zoer's all-white "Movement of the Prairie," made of hand-cut archival paper and actual animal skulls).?

The front desk staff processed us quickly and followed up with answers to some questions. When we asked for something to be brought to the room or any kind of help, someone was there immediately. The elevator was very fast.

The room had an in-room safe, iron and board, two bathrobes, a full-length mirror, mini-frig, and a long couch. The Samsung TV was very large and easy to use. The bed was a King with a Serta?Perfect Sleeper mattress and Hollander Sleep feather pillows.?We noticed at the air in the room seemed purer than at other hotels and was well-insulated from noise. We took their offer to not have our room cleaned after the first night and have a charitable donation made instead.

The bathroom had a walk-in shower with a powerful shower head, with Next shampoo and conditioner. The Conair hair dryer had a long cord to make it easy to use in front of the mirror (alas, like almost all top hotels, fluorescent lights don't provide an accurate or flattery view for makeup). The surface of the sink had plenty of room on both sides so we could easily lay out each of our personal items.

There are seven dining and drinking options at the Omni: Seltzer's (American cuisine inspired by regional flare for breakfast and lunch), Bob's Steak & Chop House, Double Double (burger bar), Catbird Seat (cocktails and food with a view of Scissortail Park), and OKC Tap House (sports bar with stage for live music), Park Grounds (espresso, ice cream, bakery, and deli), and the Basin Bar in the lobby.

We are on a restricted diet and skeptical about what we could eat at Seltzer's and OKC Tap House. We were amazed at how many options there were and that each was a very generous gourmet dish, such as Seltzer's Hash Bowl (sweet potatoes, carrots, onions, eggs, and Beyond Meat chorizo) and Tap House's Hugger pizza (wild mushrooms, eggs, roasted garlic, charred kale, and cheese). Other diners recommended Selzer's Trio Egg Omlete and the Tap's Leaf Roasted Salmon.

There is a large deck by the rooftop pool, with private cabanas, as well as a whirlpool. The fitness center has views of downtown.?

The Mokara Spa on the third floor has eight treatment rooms. a sauna, and salon services.

Most of the 76,000 square foot meeting space is on the second floor, with the 20,500-square-foot Oklahoma Station Ballroom and 10,222-square-foot Five Moons Ballroom, plus 12 breakout rooms. All have WiFi Internet access. There are also two outdoor venues for events, including weddings: the lawn adjacent to the pool deck and the covered terrace on the second floor overlooking Scissortail Park, which is normally a prefunction area for the main conference rooms.?

Valet parking is $34 overnight, hourly is $15 for up to 4 hours and $25 for 4-8 hours.
