Author Bearis’s ‘Here, In Words, In Images’, was an abundance of spiritual enlightment, valuable wisdom, and unforgettable life moments and experiences! The poems that made this collection so outstanding were knitted directly to the heart, and felt just like home. The author's tone could be described as, comforting, secure, organized, and encouraging, reminding us of some of life’s most important treasures and values.
Poems like, ‘A Sort of Insight’, are tender in nature, like the petals of a rose. When this poem speaks to you, the tone of voice is soothing and inspiring. There’s this lulling feeling of overwhelming comfort that reminds you of the natural warmth from the sunlight, graciously bathing your face free from the stresses of life. And with a direct writing approach, it’s impossible to miss the uplifting messages interwoven within each poem!
The radiant and friendly speech used throughout the entire book instilled a surge of positive vibes, mentally and physically, as sudden smiles and other uncontrollable cheerful expressions were hard to contain. Moreover, it was a joyous surprise to experience an unexpected slight humor in poems like, ‘Behind the Driftwood’, where the lady with ‘eyes of a snake’, suspicious and dismaying, turned out to be the one in for a frightful run!
But the compelling rapture does not stop there! As you continue to read on, the depths of the elated author’s emotions spark like fireworks as you experience the diversity of each poem, ranging from the delightful silence of the sunset, all the way to the honorable and virtuous tribute for women. The perfect variety of different topics definitely kept the beat alive throughout the entire collection.
Approaching the end of the book, the poem entitled, ‘Unto Unexpected: God’s Call I, II,...’, could nearly bring tears to your eyes. In this poem, a subject delicate to many of us, death, and the author's deep sentiments regarding a personal experience are poetically expressed, and we have to be honest when we say, the authenticity of the pain and heartache described in this poem cuts deeper than the blade of a sharp knife. Arranged like a small mini-series, it was inked with pure crystal tears and a heart of gold, revealing the painful void that still exists deep down in his heart.
Candidly, the author cries out to God, wondering why God would take his brother’s life away so soon. And in Part V of the, ‘ Unto Unexpected God’s Call’ series, the author cleverly delivers a rather compelling message: Treading along the path of still waters with the Lord God can restore your soul. It was a very humbling saga to read.
Overall, this book was surely worth reading and is great for anyone! With each poem being realistic and relatable, you are guaranteed to gain a favorite, if not more than one! It was wonderful how each poem possessed a voice that spoke clearly and delivered an important message with full confidence, honesty, truth, and good-intentions.
One of the most courageous and honorable things we feel this author accomplished in this work of literature was the art of uplifting others while bearing the individual pain from the loss of his brother. Sometimes, when we are going through things, it can be hard to do this; but Bearis let us all know that it’s possible! From beginning to end, he is a pivitol example of nothing more than a faithful soul writing down the verses to his life’s song.
