As it goes for every year, you may be wondering, how fast even this year went by? For most people keeping track of time is a challenge, may it be for a year or life. Most of us find ourselves in some kind of shock when we reflect on time passed and we have nothing concrete in our kitty as achievements.
This pattern can be broken easily by following a simple but effective process I am going to share below. The power to reflect, become aware and plan the new with action steps is what the timeless wisdom is all about. Once we do this properly, a lot can be achieved by all of us.
Follow the 3-step process to reflect on 2019, take out the key lessons, and plan 2020 in an impactful way.
Step 1 – Reflect
You need to reflect on 2019. This is a crucial step because it’s going to build awareness in you that what worked and what didn’t.
a) You need to divide the year into small size chunks. It might be monthly, quarterly or biannually. You can also do this by taking each important area of your life rather than taking it year wise. For example, relationship, work, finances, personal goals, etc.
b) Now start evaluating each chunk based on how you have divided it either time-wise or area wise. For example – how was the first quarter for me in different aspects of my life? or how was the area of relationship for me overall?
To be specific, ask the following questions -
+ What was my small or big success? What did I do right?
+ Things I failed in? Reasons for it? Lessons I have to learn?
+ What was one key behavior I have to work on?
c) Once you complete the activity above, you will have some good data with you. It important is to understand what behaviors made you succeed and what pushed you to fail. Pick out some key 4-5 lessons from it. Keep it with you as lessons learned.
Step 2 – Plan 2020
This is a critical step. You must find enthusiasm, hope and new energy for this year. It doesn’t matter how worse things could have been last year, this year brings a new set of possibilities.
a) You can plan the year by setting goals quarterly or area wise of your life.
I strongly suggest setting a few goals only which are the most important ones. Most people let their energy gets scattered in all directions and eventually may not achieve anything.
If you are planning time-wise, then for the entire year, set only 4-5 goals. Let these be the most important ones for you. You may write a list of 10-15 goals but eventually, choose only 4-5 of them in order of importance.
If you are creating goals for different areas of life then choose one powerful goal for each area like a relationship, work, health, money, fun, etc. Once this is done, you should have in total of 4-5 goals with you which are your most important ones for 2020.
b) You can keep these goals on your vision board or write them often as a process to manifest it faster. This is where concepts of the law of attraction and subconscious mind come in the picture. You can watch the Video here to have more clarity.
If you can convert these goals in some kind of image, it will be accepted by the brain faster.
Step 3 – Create
This is a very crucial step. Goals can’t walk, so they will not come to you. You need to create a series of consistent actions to reach them.
The key is to take small actions but consistently.
a) Choose one tiny action which you would do daily for each of these 4-5 goals. It might be just 5 mins per goal, so in total, you spend 20-25 mins every day. This is sufficient and can be very big if done daily for a year.
b) Once the action step is chosen, then schedule those actions at a specific time daily. Keep a reminder on the phone.
c) Keep an excel sheet or a diary where you can keep updating once you complete the task.
Step 4 – Reflect
This step is to keep you on track. Schedule either every Sunday or once a month for you to review your goals, on the actions you are taking. Is there need a to improvise or change the actions or you feel what you are doing is working well? This is where you have to apply your intelligence and wisdom.
Constant reflection builds awareness and eventually wisdom.
These simple 4 steps followed diligently will help you to create massive results in the long term. You have to remember the game is for the long term. Most people give up seeing the short-term failures, what they don’t realize every short-term failure is feedback to accomplish the bigger goals.
