Reversing "Brain Drain" in Cleveland
Mike DePaulo, LSSBB, CDR,
I connect people with fulfilling work to strengthen our clients' businesses. I strive for a world where everyone feels inspired at work, empowering them to be their best selves and uplift those around them.
Summer on the Cuyahoga (SOTC) is a unique summer internship program open to students of Case Western Reserve, Colgate, Cornell, Denison, Ohio Wesleyan, Smith, University of Chicago and Yale. The program brings together 50-70 students for an intensive summer immersion program designed to help interns explore the professional, civic and social offerings of the Cleveland area. SOTC offers students challenging internships, community introductions, alumni connections, and FREE group housing for the summer.
Driven by a collaborative effort among local alumni volunteers from the respective institutions, SOTC has attracted recognition as an effective civic development initiative. In partnership with employers and community leaders, the program showcases the region's abundant opportunities to the student participants. The goal is to attract talented graduates for full-time positions in the region.
In the past 13 years, SOTC has:
- Recruited over 225 summer employers offering paid internship positions
- Secured 750 students for internships, 75% of whom are not from the region
- Attracted over 8,000 students as applicants
- Resulted in over 110 students returning to Greater Cleveland for full-time positions or graduate school
