Reverse Parking

I was on a date years ago with a girl from a small southern Louisiana town, she had been living in Florida most of her adult life. When we pulled up to the wedding reception, I backed into the parking spot. She asked jokingly "Why do all you guys from Louisiana back in when you park". I jokingly replied, "Jealous Husbands".

When you drive straight into a parking space you obviously have the best sight and maneuvering ability, you see what you are getting into. Let's keep that in mind because when you back out you have the exact opposite.

When you get back to your car with it parked forward you get a quick view of what is around you. Get in your car, find and put your keys in the ignition, start the car, possibly adjust the radio and air conditioner. Even in this brief moment you have lost sight of everything going on around you. You have no side or rear view of the surrounding area, if you have a rearview camera that helps.

When you get back in your car that is parked reversed in the spot, you get the same view mentioned above. But now, your eyes are looking forward, you have a much better insight into your surroundings. You can easily see vehicles, pedestrians and such while you are adjusting your radio and air conditioner. Now you have the best sight and maneuverability when you drive out of the parking spot.

Please consider parking by backing into your parking spot whenever available.
