Reverse Flow canisters - Eliminating Water traps

Reverse flow canisters are widely used in many GT application as the standard filter type, but they are suffering from a major problem - how to get rid of the water accumulated inside of the reverse flow canister?

Lets′have a quick look at the basics of Air flow to filters first to understand the problem better:

"Normally" the air flow in canister applications is through the media from outside in causing any water separated from the air stream dripping down to the Inlet air housing floor and drained away. Outside-in flow also enables use of hydrophobic prefilter hoods/socks around the canisters/cartridges to enhance the separation of water from air.

In Reverse flow the air enters to the canister from the hole in the bottom and flows through the filter media. But this means that in the worst case the horizontally positioned filter may be having a considerable water loading inside the canister and having a water flow through the media to the clean side of the filtration system. Especially in evap coolers the reverse flow canisters may be operating for long times with water loading inside of the canister with just the overflow of the water flowing from the air steam entry hole to the floor.

Water load inside of the canister is also reducing canisters′ free filter area causing increase in dp and reducing the service life of the filter.

But now there is a solution to the problem!
