Reverse Brain Drain to Greece? Right timing or too early?
As a country and society, we Greeks are still struggling to bring back the Greek marbles to where they belong. We have not created the right lobby and we are missing the right leaders to do what should have been done for a long time.
But maybe we can bring back a part of the young generation that has left the country over the last decade?
Is the corporate world in Greece ready to bring back Greek talent from abroad?
Around 20 outstanding engineers and IT professionals who are currently working in other European countries contacted us last week and explained to us about their motivation to return under the right circumstances.
You will be surprised, that in most of the cases, the financial aspect was not even in the Top 3 of the points which are important to the young generation of Greeks from abroad. There are other issues that are way more important to them. Stability, a Long-Term Plan, a Meaningful job and career challenge and many more.
The number of interested professionals keeps increasing week by week in 2020.

4 年I would like to add one more thing to the general discussion. In my intro text, I wrote that we have been contacted lately by 20 Greeks from abroad who are interested in returning. I took the time and check this, and what is interesting is the following: 90% of the 20 candidates did not have experience in Greece, they moved abroad directly after Graduation. I think this is an important factor as these candidates did not live the Greek reality as an Employee before moving abroad... Most of the "negative" answers people shared in this topic are from experienced one who lived and worked in Greece 10-15 years before moving abroad... of course, they have a totally other picture as the Greek system has hit them hard over the years, and not only once...

4 年This goes hand to hand with the motivation of the employers to act tract talent from abroad. Only few are on this track and offer reasonable salary packages and a healthy work environment, with the latter being the most important at least for me. But talking about the necessary improvements in the Greek labor market is a big discussion. I would only advise any Greek relocating home to think it thoroughly and be prepared for big disappointments. Money is low. No career development, as nor the work standards nor technology and processes can be compared with the ones abroad. But there is also the other side. Life in central and north Europe is totally boring and monotonous. You live to work, not that you work to live. Career is a huge trap, where you can lose yourself in. Family and old friends are in Greece. The air is different, the sun shines in a unique way. Life is short, why wouldn’t you live it where you long to? ??

4 年In my opinion the no1 reason is motivation. If you are motivated to wake up and do what you have to do and you are committed to this daily routine, you will succeed and you will develop a specialty. IT doesn t matter if you are in Africa, in Europe, Greece, or any other country. We are humans and we always find solutions. I do not believe that there is a place in earth where every problem is solved. You just go and live in another place with different problems trying to avoid and freeze your current problems and get the feeling that you grow, that you evolve. Which is what you brain is always trying to do. Noone contacted me what I was 18 and tell me, "hey lets sit down and plan your life, lets think what you can really offer in this world". This is sad you know, cause we are all given this gift called "life" and we throw it in the trash. So, to conclude with, my solution for everyone out there is to stop thinking and find the "reason for being". It may sound very philosophical but i totally believe it. This is the way I have done it and I am living a totally different life.
