The Reverend Dr. Dorothy M. Jones, Th.D
Overseer Betty Williams
Overseer at The Burning Bush Evangelistic Ministries
The Legacy of The Late Reverend Dr. Dorothy M. Jones Th.D. (Saturday July 19th, 1924- Saturday October 29th, 2011).
Dr. Jones was the long standing, founding and Overseeing Pastor of the Victory Temple Original Church of GOD, in Penn Hills PA.
Known for her soft, yet straightforward articulation, Jones was often referred to as one possessing a silver tongue from which she launched her silver bullet.
As YAHWEH'S humble servant who called no glory to herself, she shunned the notoriety of the namesake Bishop. Though by regarded classification she was indeed just that; being a satellite for several churches nationwide.
With a zeal to pin the pastoral call, Doc Jones strategically guided many hands through the challenges of the ministry and provided a relief to those seeking spiritual advice. Her ecclesiastical accomplishments further included:
? Chosen (during the Clinton administration) as one of 21 pastors whose sermons published in The Children’s Defense Fund book, Prophetic Voices: Black Preachers Speak On Behalf of Children.
? President of the foreign missions department in Haiti, for Original Churches of GOD.
? Served several terms as State Overseer of Pennsylvania for The Original Churches of GOD.

? In October of 1992, Jones and the members of Victory Temple was awarded a proclamation by Pittsburgh’s City Council for being the 1st African American woman to purchase a church edifice; thus having pioneered the way for those who would afterwards follow. This was especially noteworthy, because it marked a time when women were not readily accepted in of clerical role. Thus, it was declared the first Sunday of October, that year as, "Victory Temple Day."
She was known also as, “A Mother of Ministers.' And because of her unencumbered determination scores of clerics (men & women) advanced in ministry.
From the humble beginnings of the lowly streets of Homewood, to the etched out edifice in Penn Hills, Dr. Jones emerged to hail the way for many; creating both mental and spiritual imagery that cannot be easily erased.
Columnist Jacalyn Barbour of The Pittsburgh Courier cited her for contributing works in a September 2007 issue of the paper. In its contents she commended Dr. Jones for her unquestionable commitment to GOD. Reciting that Dr. Jones had responded to the call of duty for more than 59 years of unblemished service. To GOD be the Glory!
On the 29th day of October, in The Year of our LORD 2011, in Dearborn MI., so as ripened Orchids faded, Jones gave up the ghost and died at a good old age of 87, being full of years. And was gathered to her people. May her soul be at peace. ~Farewell and rest well our long-time cherished spiritual mother, mentor, and beloved friend.
