How to Improve Your LinkedIn Ad ROI by 20%

Hey there! Alex Monroe from T.A. Monroe here.

Scaling your LinkedIn Ads can be a journey with many hurdles to jump over. Today I’ll unpack these blockers and how you can pole vault over them.?

Ready to scale your LinkedIn Ads?

Here's what you need to know:

1. Audience Size Matters

One of the first blockers to scaling LinkedIn Ads is audience size. Increasing your budget without a large enough audience can cause your costs to rise without improving performance.

So, what do you do?

You can use LI's demographic insights tool to expand on Similar Audiences.

  • Job Functions: If specific job functions are engaging more prospects, consider expanding to adjacent roles or broader job functions. For instance, if "Information Technology" performs well, expand to related roles like "Software Development" or "Engineering."
  • Industries: If an industry is particularly responsive, broaden the target to include similar or related industries. For example, if "Healthcare" performs well, try "Pharmaceuticals" or "Medical Devices."
  • Company Size: If certain company sizes are performing, consider targeting slightly larger or smaller companies to widen the pool.

2. Budget Constraints

Scaling often means higher budgets, but this doesn't guarantee more leads. Adjust your budgets wisely.

  • Increase Daily Budgets Gradually: Scaling by 10-20% increments can lead to better performance without unnecessary cost hikes.
  • Revisit Bidding Strategies: Higher bids can improve reach, but ensure stakeholders are aware that cost per lead will rise proportionally.

3. Friction in Your Ads

Poor performing ads can drag down your scaling efforts. Ads that don’t resonate with your audience lead to low engagement.

  • Experiment with Ad Formats: Try video ads, carousel ads, and conversation ads to find what resonates most with your audience.
  • Optimize Offers: Test different offers to ensure you're delivering something valuable and attention-grabbing.

4. Prepare for Internal Scaling

Scaling your ad efforts without aligning with your sales team can create bottlenecks.

  • Coordinate with Sales Teams: Ensure your team is prepared to handle additional leads generated through LinkedIn campaigns.
  • Review Product-Market Fit: Ensure your product is solving a relevant pain point before scaling—preventing wasted marketing efforts.

5. Test and Learn with Campaign Numbers

Running only one campaign can limit your scale. Test with multiple campaigns targeting the same audience with different methods.

  • Use Different Targeting Options: Running campaigns targeting different job titles or seniority levels can help gather better insights.
  • Learn From Results: Treat each campaign as a mini focus group to refine your strategy continuously.
