Revel A to Z: Grand Central Market
This week is Letter G and we’re talking about the Holy Grail of food halls: Grand Central. Erin Mavian, who heads Revel’s Los Angeles office and most recently the Ohio Valley Division (no really), served as Creative Director for the 30,000 sf food hall for half a decade, spearheading the strategy, merchandising, marketing, events and leasing for the landmark asset. And away we go!
Grand Central Market in downtown Los Angeles is a historic food hall and marketplace that has been in continuous operation since 1917. It’s a beacon of inspiration for nearly every food hall developer that’s emerged in the last 15 years (cue the neon signage, roll up garage doors, culinary collabs and a 12-month calendar of events and festivals).
Located at 317 South Broadway, Grand Central Market serves as a vibrant culinary destination, with a diverse array of approximately 40 food, beverage and retail vendors that represent the multicultural mosaic that is Los Angeles.
While the market has transformed several times over its 107-year history, it continues it’s evolution through today seeing 5 million visitors annually. From local tourists and multi-generational patrons to modern day foodies and international travelers, it’s the ultimate experience of heritage recipes from legacy vendors like Roast To Go which opened in 1952 to the latest and greatest in small chef-drive operations. The market's enduring appeal lies in its blend of historical charm and contemporary food offerings, making it a quintessential part of downtown LA's cultural and culinary landscape.
