(Or what my wife refers to as “a normal day”... Ha! I’m joking… or am I?...)
About 2 weeks ago I noticed that a new client of mine had some sketchy results in their Klaviyo account.
There were wild swings in the open rates. Like, one day 3%, the next day 43%.
My “do not eff up your deliverability” alarm bells started screaming.
My email to him read something like:
“DO NOT SEND TO THESE SEGMENTS EVER AGAIN.”
Yep, that’s right. I went “all caps” on his ass.
He was emailing the worst segments in his Klaviyo account.
Now, because I have to be very quick with this week’s issue, just trust me when I say you can send to crap segments, but only under very specific circumstances, which I can’t get into right now.
But I can tell you the first thing you must do if you want to try and re-engage “dead” data in your email marketing software.
Clean your effin’ list.
Yesterday, I finished cleaning the list of the client mentioned above.
These are the results:
The number that stuck out like a big toe in a holey sock was the 1,238 invalid email address.
Not only were these sitting in his Klaviyo account, taking up space and costing him money…
… emails were sent to them!
They have a ZERO chance of being opened.
You can see from the image there were a few other questionable results too.
This Is What To Do With Your Own List Cleaning Results:
1 - Suppress all the bad data that’s been flagged up, in your email software (many will charge you for the number of profiles you have, so boot that crap data out of your account to save money)
2 - If you have some wonky open rates, tighten up your segments
3 - When your metrics stabilise, slowly increase the segments
4 - As long as your deliverability is solid, you can now try to use my method for re-engaging all that ‘other’ data that you haven’t been able to email

What’s that?
You don’t know what my method is?
I know! MwuHahahaha!
Only I know it.
And if you want it, you’ll have to butter me up for it. But instead of using butter, use money.
And if you don’t want to do that, then follow Today’s CTA and at least clean your list with ZeroBounce (<-- that is MY link. If you use it, I will get paid (very little) money).
There are alternatives to ZeroBounce. Neverbounce is one of them. I’m sure they’re pretty much the same.
However, I first used ZeroBounce about 4 or so years ago while working in the corporate world and their customer service has always been great.
I like being treated well.?
So when they told me about their affiliate thing, it made sense.
Anyway, get scrubbing . And if you use my link and need some help, DM me here and I’ll try and help :)
Have a great rest of the week.

** Full disclosure, I’m pretty much at capacity with client work, so I’ve had to change the criteria for projects that I’ll accept. If you get rejected, it’s really not personal. I’m a lone wolf out here with limited resources and no desire to become an agency.
