How I made up a Million Dollars working from home!!

Now that you are working from home you also want to make some quick money right? If not a million, whatever! It's still worth it. So let’s take off from here!

The International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) named it as ‘Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)’. Taking the cue here, WHO named the disease as ‘COVID-19’ in the International Classification of Diseases (ICD). Confused why I am writing about COVID-19? If I were making up so much of money, I would rather focus on it. Anyways, now that you are here, it’s okay to spend another 3-4 minutes to finish reading my article. You don’t need to press the ‘bell’ icon or click the ‘subscribe’ button at the end of it!

What the heck is going on? It’s more than a week I am confined to home. How long the wait to break this confinement and open up back into the world. I have in this week watched almost every movie and more than once. I watched the most boring stuff against my wish. I am trying things that I never did earlier. The world is locked down and so is India and I am forced to write this.

There is a lot of research on the source of this outbreak but thankfully it is confirmed that it was neither planned nor developed in a Chinese lab. This could have scared me a lot. Studies are most probably associating it to the Bat from which it could have transmitted into humans through other live animals sold at the busy Wuhan’s wet market. Wuhan is apparently popular for selling wild animals illegally including the pangolins that are also thought to be the second probable source. There are some popular uploads in Youtube. Watch out for these.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FjYl1acuGU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_yRuOho-PY

Just two days ago China finally apologized to the family of Dr Li Wenliang. It’s too late and too little. It crossed Chinese borders internationally and by 11th March it was declared a ‘Pandemic’ by WHO. China undermined the breakout. But what did other nations do until 11th March. The pace with which it was already growing within China was very fast week over week.

It was business as usual in other countries. And that was a serious mistake. Rather a lapse. Nobody took actions to curb the spread and merely trusted on Chinese government to take actions and localizing it to China.

China is a major business partner to the US and other European developed countries that have huge manufacturing bases. Chinese share to worlds import and export is very close to US. There is a lot of travel that happens between these countries. It’s my common sense to expect it to spread outside of China for sure. And with no medicine discovered yet it definitely causes a lot of concern. By now over 160 countries have been affected and the number of deaths outside of China has surpassed the numbers within China. Some of the reports suggest that it is still too early to conclude and the number of infected cases is going to scale up exponential from here unless drastic steps are taken to check the spread and some cure can be discovered. In a globalized world this was least expected.

A major question in circles discussed if this could take the world into recession. All over the world stocks are falling crazy. But again I am very positive. I don’t care about stock indices which make no sense to me. I would not expect this to lead to recession. Recession, in economic terms, loosely, is a situation when supply outgrows demand; I believe we were already into recession over the past couple of years but nobody wants to call it out first. The current pandemic is by no means to me a trigger to a new recession. It may affect few industries in the short run like the tourism and travel. The biggest impact would be to the people who make their daily wages and below poverty line families who have no means to spend on medical cost if they get infected. I am very sure things would bounce to normal as the pandemic starts receding.

So am I saying all is going to be well soon? Yes it is possible but I am worried that our governments are not willing to learn from their mistakes; People at the helm of administering have been seen busy with their political agenda. No sooner the outbreak happened way back in Jan, China should have been isolated, travel to and from China should have been stopped, warnings should have been issued to the citizens, public gatherings should have been stopped, but businesses were allowed to go as usual, administrations continued to show their laxity and over confidence and ignorance. Situation is so worse that there is no availability of basic safety needs like face mask and sanitizers. Where they are available, they are out of reach. Hospitals are in dilapidated conditions. The FDA seems to have approved hydroxychloroquine in a rush but clinical trials are still far away. Shutting down establishments is the need of the hour but not a solution and cannot go for long. That would be an economic disaster!

It’s time for a very aggressive approach from health authorities alongside active support from the citizens. And very soon we all need to Question!!
