Efficiently Updating Records in Salesforce
Updating records is part of everyday routines in Salesforce, so we at MV Clouds took the initiative to make your lives easier with Mass Update Without ID.
Mass Update Without ID by MV Clouds is a one-click compact application, available for free on the Salesforce App Exchange, that allows users to update large numbers of data using CSV files without the use of a record ID.
However, when updating records, it is often necessary to have a unique identifier, such as a record ID, to ensure that the correct records are updated.
But what happens when you need to perform a mass update on records without a unique identifier?
MV CLOUDS explore some ways to perform the mass updates without relying on records IDs
External IDs are custom fields that can be used to uniquely identify records in Salesforce. By using an external ID field, you can perform mass updates on records even if you do not have the record IDs. To use an external ID field for mass updates, you need to create a new custom field and set it as an external ID. Then you can use the external ID to update records using Salesforce Data Loader or any other Salesforce data management tool.
Matching criteria is another way to identify records for mass updates. You can use any field or combination of fields that uniquely identify the records you want to update. For example, if you want to update all accounts that belong to a specific region, you can use the Region field to identify the records for updating. Then you can use Salesforce Data Loader or any other data management tool to update the records that match the criteria.
A formula field can be used to generate a unique identifier for each record. You can create a formula field that concatenates several fields together to create a unique value. This unique value can then be used to identify the records for mass updates. However, this method may not be suitable for large datasets, as formula fields can impact performance. Suppose you have an object called "Leads" with fields called "First Name" and "Last Name." You can create a formula field called "Unique Identifier" that concatenates the First Name and Last Name fields. Then you can use the Unique Identifier field to update records in the Leads object.?

If none of the above solutions work for your situation, you can create a batch process that identifies the records for updating. You can use the Salesforce API to query the records based on specific criteria and then update the records using the same API. This approach requires some programming knowledge, but it can be an effective way to perform mass updates on records without a unique identifier.?
