Rev Up Safety: Cutting-Edge Gas Protection for Oil and Gas Vehicles
Welcome to the third edition of TeQ Shield? Chronicles. In this edition, we explore Vehicle Gas Protection in Oil and Gas environments.
First off, what is Vehicle Gas Protection and why is it important?
Managing worker safety in a sour gas environment is a complex challenge. Despite systematic detection protocols and protective equipment safeguarding drilling and production facilities, workers remain vulnerable to undetected leaks in pipelines or facilities. The critical issue arises from potential exposure to toxic gases from the moment they enter the field until they reach their designated location.
The pressing question is: how can workers entering the field be made aware of potential leaks and be protected from the threat of H2S gas exposure throughout their journey?
When we discussed this with our customers, their innovative idea was to ensure vehicles entering the field are under positive pressure, thereby isolating the vehicle's interior from outside air. However, upon investigation, we found that creating a sealed, positive pressure environment in standard vehicles like the Land Cruiser was impractical. This challenge led to the conception of AirQruise.
Understanding the need to detect toxic gases outside the vehicle, we equipped it with external air and gas detectors. To communicate real-time detection to the driver and passengers, we installed a digital interface displaying gas readings. Additionally, an internal detector was placed to ensure the air inside the vehicle remained uncontaminated. This dual detection system addressed the need for real-time monitoring.
In terms of protection, in our first project, we provided a robust air supply capable of sustaining five passengers with breathable air for an hour. This gives ample time to initiate safety protocols and ensure rescue in case of emergency.
Today, AirQruise stands as the gold standard in field safety. The detection and protection kit is now a staple in trucks, cranes, and other utility vehicles operating in high-risk areas. This innovation not only enhances safety but also sets a new benchmark for operational security in hazardous environments. Read more here.
How does it work?
Want to find out more about how the system works? Equipped with gas detection sensors and breathing air equipment, driver and passengers in the Air Qruise? vehicle are protected even in IDLH environments. Read the article to find out more.
Any case studies to prove this actually works on the ground?
A case study is the best way to understand how a technology has fared in reality and on the ground. The Air Qruise? technology has been put to the test for over 10 years in one of UAE's largest sour gas facilities to much success. Originally installed in a SUV, it is now used in a range of other vehicles including trucks, forklifts, cranes and even a bus. Read the case study here.
